nested ANCOVA
Dear R-users,
is there a chance to do an nested ANCOVA in R? I've read the archive mails
but it doesn't work.
We have the following situation:
We are interested in differences in carabid biomass at different aged
woodlands. Thus, we have a nested design with 2 fixed groups (0=recent,
1=ancient) and 10 woodlands (each with 8 replications/traps) per fixed
group. Woodland is therfore nested within the fixed variable. In an
additional step we want to calculate these procedure with a covariate called
beech (this means th...

Adonis and nmds help and questions for a novice.

I have been trying to use Adonis to find out if there are significant difference between groups on data that I have analyses with NMDS, and have been struggling with getting this to work and understanding what is going on. I am looking at diversity in different soils with either woodland or grassland habitats.
I have run the scripts

library(ecodist)
library(MASS)

MS file server, so any help would be appreciated. I tried this
initially in Etch, but I that version wasn't handling the connection to
AD for nss and winbind very well at all, hence I'm trying in Ubuntu.
Thanks!

nls and geometric mean regression
Hello folks,
I'm seeking opinions about the validity of the following use of the
nls function...
A colleague and myself are working with tree allometric data
consisting of measurements of individual trees in semi-arid Australian
woodland species. We need to make predictions of trunk diameter (DBH:
diameter at breast height) given tree height and vice versa. I _think_
this falls into the category of model II regression in that both
variables are measured with error in our data, and we desire agreement
between forward and reverse pre...

Automatic printer download
Hallo!
I am running samba-3.0.10-1.4E.11 on centOS. I want to enable the
automatic printer download feature, but are running into problems.
I have tried to work it out from samba by example, but since the automatic
driver download is bundeled togehter with ldap (which I am not using),
this does not get me anywhere.
Can anyone direct me to a good howto on this - one that will make things
work! I
