Persistant Z drive in XP
Hello. New to SAMBA.(2.2.8 on RH9) Mixed environment of 98 & (trying) XP. My "net use s: /home" command works wonderfully for XP and 98. But XP throws in an "extra" "more home-than-home" directory - namely \username\.win_profile on the Z drive. I've tried disconnecting it with: net use Z: /delete, but XP claims to have a process running on it (even after 10

Samba new server in existing domain/sever
Sirs, I have Linux Samba Server with following "global" smb.conf file. This server is acting as PDC with CAT domain name. We have window 2000 PC's connect to this server. We had changed some registry for win2000 PC so it can join the domain CAT. I believe that was required. Now, my question is, can I set up new Linux Samba Serve even though I have one server acting as domain? What

XP SP2 connecting to 3.0.10-1.4E
I have been running our companies XP Pro systems on our Samba domain controller (version: 3.0.10-1.4E) with local administrative rights up to this point. Everything has worked fine. We are getting larger now and I'd like to make the logins locally restricted (I want them to have XP's "Users" rights and "Remote Desktop Users" only). When I restrict the accounts

Can't join my domain
Day 2 of my adventure into Samba. Having had such success with workgroup-based Samba, it was time to try Samba as a PDC. Unfortunately, it got cut short very quickly because I am not able to log into the domain from the XP client. I took the following steps (I'm using Samba 3.0): - modified my smb.conf as per instructions in O'Reilly Using Samba, 2nd Ed. (I think this may be part

nobody logon but guest ok = no
I have an annoying problem with my new (and first) SAMBA PDC deployment. Valid users are being connected to the root directory "/" of my server as nobody. The only way you can discover the user is to troll the log file. Here is my config file as pertains to users: [global] - encrypt passwords=yes ; wins support=yes ; security=user ; domain logons=yes ; oplocks=no ;

WIN2k Log in problem to samba PDC
I am in the process of setting up samba as a PDC for a mixed computer lab of WINXP boxes and WIN2k boxes. The winxp boxes aren't having a problem, but the winnt/2k ones are causing trouble. They will join the domain okay and log in fine. After reboot however, they will no longer allow a user to log in and will say unable to log in because the domain COMPUTERS is not available. Clues?

Weird problem connecting W2k workstation to domain
Hi all, I'm using Samba 3.0.2a and after fussing around a bit, I got a W2k client machine to join the domain. My original need to have this setup was to create printer accounting so I put in a print command (see below) in the printers section. Unfortunately, the accounting file wasn't written to. Then I ran testparm -v and noticed there was a 'print command' field in the global

Hi, I'm configuring samba as PDC for my network, but I'm having a few problems: 1) roaming profiles are not working, even if I've made up symbolic links in the directories, such as (for user luca): sede:/home/samba-ntprof/luca # ls -l totale 1 drwx------ 3 luca users 120 2004-11-12 17:06 . drwxrwxrwx 3 root root 72 2004-11-12 11:58 .. lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 2004-11-12

Errors
I've tried to find a solution on my own to this problem, but have yet to find anything useful. I have a very simple setup where there is only one samba server which is acting as a PDC. I'm getting quite a few errors in smbd.log. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. [2005/03/29 15:28:22, 0] lib/util_sock.c:get_peer_addr(1000) getpeername failed. Error was Transport endpoint is

Password problem
Hi all, I have an odd problem concerning passwords. The same results i both 3.0.10 and 3.0.20. I want to lockout user after they used the wrong passwd 3 times. I'll use: pdbedit -P "bad lockout attempt" -C 3 It does not stick? The user can keep trying forever. If I use -C 1, it works - any other number fails. pdbedit -Lv does not count bad password at all. The Samba-box is

Hello list, I sent this about two weeks ago, but I didn't get an answer... so I'm pushing my luck. :-) QUESTION#1: What EXACLTLY causes the HOMEDRIVE, HOMEPATH, and HOMESHARE variables? Something passed from Samab to the client, or some thing the client does? QUESTION#2: How/what/where/why is there a difference in the results of click on "Command Prompt"? My Setup... I'm
