File locking, Linux Redhat 6.1, samba 2.0.6 and netatalk-1.4b2+asun2.1.4
...the mac users are able to corrupt samba's files, is there anything that needs to be turned on/off on samba to tell the netatalk daemons to stop doing nasty things? (or vice versa) Has anybody else had problems with this particularily under Word and Filemaker Pro ? Poor linux client performance (comparing to XP)
Hello, I haven't found anything useful googling around so I decided to ask here. I have a Linux server running Samba on 100Mbit/s ethernet. If I connect to it using WinXP, mount some share and download files from it it reaches about 9MB/s transfer rate. Using FTP gives even higher transfer rates. BUT when I use linux to connect to (linux!) server, mount shares and download files then

ZFS Storage Pool advice
This question is concerning ZFS. We have a Sun Fire V890 attached to a EMC disk array. Here''s are plan to incorporate ZFS: On our EMC storage array we will create 3 LUNS. Now how would ZFS be used for the best performance? What I''m trying to ask is if you have 3 LUNS and you want to create a ZFS storage pool, would it be better to have a storage pool per LUN or combine the 3

Using Samba to Mount User Shares as Linux Home Dirs?
...39; network share/home directory in the window environment to be magically available to them on this linux box. What seemed to be a pretty straightforward task has turned out to be very difficult. In the windows environment, the users have a directory below //servername/Users (//servername/Users/swheatley would be my directory). I have read in previous postings that mounting subdirectories is not in the SMB spec and have since resigned myself to having to share individual user directories. If anybody knows of a better way of doing this, I would love to hear it. So now I'm looking for a way t...

newbie desperate for help
I just installed Samba for the first time. Installed and setup like a dream. Unfortunately, I can't login to save my life. The server appears in the Net. Neighborhood, but when I double-click to login, the login window give the following message: Incorrect password or unknown username for \\SERVERNAME Entering a username and password (from /etc/passwd) returns: \\SERVERNAME is not

UFS or ZFS for MYSQL and APACHE web server data and Database
I have two 200GB ISCSI LUN''s setup on each X4600 M2 running Solaris 10 X86 update 4. The data on these ISCSI disks for one server will be Apache and on the other server MYSQL. My question is should I setup these disks as a ZFS Pool filesystem or as a UFS soft partition (eventually the LUN will be expanded). What would offer the best performance and easier to expand later on? What

Moving zfs to an iscsci equallogic LUN
We have a Mirror setup in ZFS that''s 73GB (two internal disks on a sun fire v440). We currently are going to attach this system to an Equallogic Box, and will attach an ISCSCI LUN from the Equallogic box to the v440 of about 200gb. The Equallogic Box is configured as a Hardware Raid 50 (two hot spares for redundancy). My question is what''s the best approach to moving the ZFS
