outdated timezone info
Just upgraded 4.7 to 4.8 stable. Hoped that timezone info will be up to date, but it still isn't though files in /usr/share/zoneinfo show new dates. For instance daylight saving time settings are outdated in Europe/Vilnius file. I'll try to recompile those files from sources got fom ftp://elsie.nci.nih.gov/pub/ but it would be nice to have updated info for the next release of freebsd or even next update to 4.8stable .. The question is: where should i e-mail this info? thanks _Zzz_

Saving a plot in R-LINUX
Good day, Is there any way to save a plot produced by R in a LINUX (Debian) machine? The window opened by R to put the plot in, does not give any option to save it (there are options to move, close, minimise it, etc. but not to save it). How do you do that? calculating recursive sequences
...o it is possible to calculate it as a linear equations solution, but it is easy to think of the case where the recursion is non-linear. Tramo-seats
Working - among other things- in the field of (short & long term) electricity forecast, we are now using too many & too expensive pieces of licensed software: SAS, SPSS, EViews. This "sedimentation" is due to the fact that my predecessors in the past used different consultant companies to manage each procedure. Having attended the useR2004! Conference with the aim of assessing

optim error
Dear all, There have been one or two questions posted to the list regarding the optim error "non-finite finite-difference value [4]." The error apparently means that the 4th element of the gradient is non-finite. My question is what part(s) of my program should I fiddle with in an attempt to fix it? Starting values? Something in the log-likelihood itself? Perhaps the data

Good morning everyone. I wonder if it is possible, without touching the source code, to Asterisk save the cdr with date in unix time instead of the default date. It's possible? PhD student reading list, suggestions wanted
I've got a PhD student starting this year. She'll be working on data mining. She has asked for a reading list while she's still in her home country, which is a really good sign. Her cosupervisor and I don't (think we) have any problem with choosing things that are specifically about data mining, but there are some statistical ideas (sampling, exploratory-vs-confirmatory,
