For the record: Postfix+Spamassassin+ClamAV+Dovecot
Postfix 2.5.5 SpamAssassin 3.2.5 (under Perl 5.10.0) ClamAV 0.95.1 Dovecot 1.2.rc2 works fine on Fedora 10. Installed Dovecot and ClamAV from source and everything else using yum. I'm using the ClamAV plugin for Spamassassin: http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/ClamAVPlugin I'm calling Spamassassin with: /etc/postfix/main.cf: mailbox_command = /usr/bin/spamc -f -e

I've moved to US
I thought about saying this in v1.2.beta1 release annoouncement, but looks like it'll take a few more days. So I've moved to Blacksburg, Virginia and I'm now working for Mailtrust the rest of this year. Here's some talk about it: http://mailtrust.com/blog (A bit stupid looking picture, but then again all my pictures seem to be that way so I didn't bother getting a new one

How to add the missing maildir folders
Hi fellow list members, What would be the best way to add the .Sent,.Draft, etc. folders to the maildir tree? It seems not Dovecots task to do that but of the MUA. I have seen several options. Use of skel but that works only for new system users. I have only virtual users preloaded in a database. I've discoverred that ONLY Roundcube add the folders (if configured to do that) but I've

Convert plugin
Hi, I'm trying to convert users from a sendmail server to a postfix/dovecot server. All works fine but one of the last things is to rescue the messages in /var/mail/<user> on the old server. This seems very straitforward using the convert plugin but with the settings from the wiki, nothing happens when the user logs in. Do I need a private namespace for this as suggested elsewhere

First time Dovecot user, really impressed so far. What is best IMAP enabled webmail package to go with Dovecot?
Greetings everyone, I'm new to the list as of today. I just installed Dovecot a couple of days ago for the first time, Debian Lenny Dovecot v1.0.15-2.3. So far I'm pretty impressed. I'm using mbox format with Dovecot auto-deciding to place mail in user home directories, which is great. It works very well with the Win32 Thunderbird 3 client over a small basic 100FDX switched net.

Rpm builders: Dovecot spec file
Maybe best asked to Axel... I'm re-building my server from scratch (the old one was MDK 10.1 -> Mandriva 2006.0 with Postfix/Courier) and I want to install the latest versions postfix/mysql/postfixadmin/dovecot/squirrelmail. I've been building Dovecot (and postfix) from tarballs/srpm in the past so I know more or less how it all fits together. But I wonder if 'old' patches

How to give system and virtual users their own mail_location?
Hi all. Now hopefully as a new thread because I still have this question. Apologies to Geert and Timo for my misbehaviour...(repling to the list and changing the subject). I hace Dovecot rc12 working on Mandriva 2007.0 now for system accounts and virtual accounts both imap and imaps can be used. Th problem now is that I cannot use both types of user at the same time. The 'mail_location =

Running auth as root
Hi, I seem to be forced to run the auth proces as root because I want to use pam for local users. My gut feeling says that this is Not Good. Is there another way? For the virtual users 'vmail' is good enough because that user may access the MySQL database. This is on Ubuntu server 10.04.1 and Dovecot 1.2.9. TIA, Egbert Jan

two mailboxes - sieve?
Hi helpful list! I have this user that has two different accounts om the mail server. One is a system account, the other is a virtual account (for what it is worth...). This user would like to have all his email to the virtual mail box (maildir format) automatically moved (or delivered) to the system mailbox (also maildir fornat). Both are on the same machine and use the same postfix/dovecot

Last login
Hi, I'm trying to find a way to find inactive users. Is there a simple way to deduct the last login date of a user from that users Maildir files? Are the timestamps on the index files reliable? I ask because the system and dovecot logs are not available to me but I can search the whole .../vmail/domain/user/Maildir tree. I'n running 1.2.9 on ububtu 10.04 LTS with posttfix and

XMLRPC anyone?
Hi, Is there any code around that lets Dovecot (2.x) aauthenticate via a XMLRPC server (which connects to a LDAP server) instead of going directly to a LDAP server? It could give much more flexibility. TIA Egbert Jan, NL

imap / IPv6 problems?
Hi, I have this intermittant problem. When sending an email it *sometimes* takes ages before the process finishes. The process seems to hang in moving the message to the sent items" folder". When I disable the IPv6 stack in the network config (this is MS Windows 7), the hanging process immedialetely completes! This makens me think that is has to do with the IP stacks. Another observed

Pure virtual user and RT3.x
Hi, I have mailsystem with virtual users only (/home/vmail/domain/user). I need to integrate RT3.x (a ticketing system). I have installed the client but I need to send mail to a pipe. Rt wants me to insert: |/usr/bin/rt-mailgate --queue bla --action bla --url http://bla.bal/ In /etc/postfix/aliases. That does not work for me. What is the right way to achieve that mail to rt at mydomain is

Dovecot (unofficial) patches
Dear list, As a recent dovecot addict, I'm a bit puzzled by the sheer amount of patches available. I have not seen the history of these patches and I could not find a README explainng the patches. Are all these personal wishes/nice to have things or are they (to be) incorporated in dovecot-final? I use rpmbuild to create new rpms from the latest tarball but in that process still several

SSL-read error in logfile
Now most things seem to work (rc12 on Mandriva 2007.0), I've been looking more thoroughly at the syslog file. I see a 'syscall failed' at the end of a normal timed poll from the client. I wonder what it means. Sorry for the layout, it is messed up by the cut and paste. I have created the selfsigned cert and key in the /etc/ssl/dovecot/[certs,private] directories. Egbert Jan Nov 8

high number of processes
Hi, Sometimes a script kiddie tries to guess passwords on our mailserver (Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS, postfix, dovecot 1.2.9, scanners, the standard stuff). That leads to a nagios message about the high number of processes. The number goes above 500. Nagios threshold is set to 250, which is more than enough for normal operation of this server. When are these processes supposed to die again? They seem to

config best practice
Hi! We will soon start upgrading our Ubuntu mail server (running 2.0.19) from 12.04.1 LTSto 14.04 LTS. The dovecot config is still pretty much in 1.x style; one flat file called dovecot.conf. I can easily switch to a dovecot.conf with the "!include" lines and rename my flat config file to local.conf. I've tested that and it works fine. I could also try to move all lines in local.conf
