GLXBadDrawable 142 (Gentoo) (works fine on Ubuntu)
...ething wrong with my configuration (either wine or gentoo), but I have no idea where to start. Any help at all would be appreciated.
It got really weird when suddenly it did start, perhaps nvidia failed and it used some sort of fallback? I have a screenshot and logs for that:

http://dragon.student.utwente.nl/pics/screenshots/screenshot-hal-driver-log
I can't recreate this at will, it just happens.
I have found http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1630681 which is a similar error, but since I do not have BSD...

Printing via Samba
I'm trying to print to a shared printer on my Windows 98 SE box from my linux
box. I've configured it via Webmin and I can mount my home directory on linux
from Windows (using samba) and vice versa... But I can't seem to configure
printing properly... I've got a Canon BJC-1000 on my Windows box and Webmin
seems to think it SHOULD be printable.... *sigh* I've tried all three

No automatic refresh?
Hi!
I've been struggling with this install of Samba 2.0.4b on Linux/x86 2.0.36.
All of the client machines run Windows NT 4, SP 3.
I'm exporting /tmp as pub, and if I right click in the folder and create
a new folder, it doesn't show up until I go to 'view' and 'refresh'.
If I delete something, it doesn't go away until I refresh.
Why?

Multithreading
Hi.
I need to execute a function from within a GUI.
This seems to be no problem but this function takes about 4 minutes to
finish, which means the application doesn't react at all, while the
function is running.
Can I execute a function as a separate Thread, while keeping
control(e.g. a reference) of it at the same time?
If not, how do this with a class containing this function?
thanks,

Video compression, edge detection, and gcc warnings
...ormation. Currently it loads any uncompressed grayscale TGA file, and
spits out another uncompressed greyscale TGA file that is 255 at places
where there are edges, and 0 where there are not. I managed to get out
quite a lot of noise.
You can find a test image and the result at
http://home.student.utwente.nl/l.e.veen/test4.jpg and
http://home.student.utwente.nl/l.e.veen/out.jpg.
It is very simple:
1) Load the image
2) Rescale to 25% of the original size to filter out noise
3) Run a double (x/y) Sobel filter on the image (a Sobel filter just
calculates the difference between two neighbouring pixel...

There has been some discussion about this within the past two months on this
list, IIRC. You should try searching the archives for that discussion.
IIRC, the outcome is that transforming binary code into

Filelist caching
Hi,
I've noticed every time someone does an rsync-request on my ftp-site
(which also provides rsync as mirror method), rsyncd creates a filelist.
This is a quite IO and CPU intensive procedure, especially for things
mirrors like FreeBSD with lots of little files.
I was wondering... is there a way to cache that filelist? Our mirrors
are updated once, or twice a day, it could speed up

Rsync not requiring a server
Hello,
When you synchronize with rsync, how does rsync tell what part of a
sourcefile differs from the destination file?
Rsync does not require a server for this... Can anyone give me a short

Seeing two networks with Samba
Hi there,
I'm in our dorms at the university, and throughout the dorms we've got a
large windows network with shares on everyone's computer and things. (dorm
network) Inside our dorm, however, we've got a linux box doing ip
masquerading for an internal network. The linux box has 2 ethernet cards,
one which talks to the internal network and one which talks to the dorm
