SUMMARY: Samba "unable to validate password" error
...ed note I've always found Alpha/Tru64 with
it's ASU product superior to samba. Since you are an
EDU site licensing is free.
Worth a look if you get the chance.

To ensure that you do not get this authentication problem:
1-make sure usernameA exist in local /etc/passwd file
2-make sure usernameA exist in smb passwd db (file)
NB:cd /samba/home/location/samba/bin
then, add the usernameA with this command
smbpasswd -a usernameA
Note: the user will have to type its NT passwd twice....

[Bug 837] connection closed by remote host

in directory $HOME/.ssh, the permission of the authorized_keys file set
with "chmod 600 authorized_keys", the .ssh directory is set to 700 by chmod,
the $HOME directory permisions is also set to 755.
When I try to connect using the command "ssh -l usernameA HostB" I receive the
following messages:
Connection to unixs348 closed by remote host.
Connection to unixs348 closed.
The connection was NOT successful
I have taken the same "id_rsa.pub" file and tried it under a second account on
HostB,with exactly the same permissions setup a...
