Problem with my 'master browser'
Hi! Configuration: NT1 (NT Server 4.0 SP4) Unix2 (samba 2.0.3) Is this a normal behavior? My NT-Server and my samba-server a fighting to be the master browser. Look also at my smb.conf [global]-section. The OS-Level of my samba-server is much higher. /var/log/log.nmb: ***** [1999/10/06 14:01:07, 0] nmbd/nmbd_incomingdgrams.c:proces...

Multiple password servers/domains
...nt domains, but running different configurations based on what the machine is called when attempting to mount (unfortunately, this is confusing to the end users). In the example below, I use password server ntserver1 if mounting \\unix1\myshare. To use password server ntserver2, you would mount \\unix2\myshare. I'm pretty sure that the workgroups are not needed for this to work. ----begin smb.conf---- secuity = server include = /samba/lib/smb.conf.%L [myshare] path = /shares/myshare ----end smb.conf---- ----begin smb.conf.unix1---- password server = ntserver1 workgroup = group1 ----end sm...

Start smbd and nmbd daemons on other HP Unix (version 10.20) serv er
Hi everyone, I would like to know if it's possible to start the smbd/nmbd daemons from an other HP Unix server. The installation of Samba has been made on a RAID mounted on an other Unix server (the main one). We want to do that because whe need to reduce the working flow in the main server. users.map file
In our users.map file we have the following entries: unix1 = nt1 unix2 = nt2 unix3 = @unixgroup3 unix4 = @unixgroup4 When we create shares on the samba server, we assign the valid users as @unixgroup3 or @unixgroup4. For whatever reason, if a share has @unixgroup4 as the valid users entry, we cannot connect to it from the nt side. If we flip-flop the group...

I tried to follow the second version of the PAM configuration, because as I see on Debian, the pam-unix2.so doesn't support ldap. I didn't include pam_pwcheck.so, because it gave me an error about it doesn't find that module. /etc/pam.d/passwd: auth sufficient pam_ldap.so account sufficient pam_ldap.so password sufficient pam_ldap.so password required pam_unix2.so nullok use...

copy a large volume of data from PC to samba server
Hi there, Is there someone over there knows a method or script that can copy a large volume of data (in folders) from PCs to a samba server (suppose there is enough space there)? I know using smbclient or smbtar can backup data on PCs to samba server, but it is written in tar files.I wonder whether this method can handle a large folder, say, in 10GB size. Also, using smbclient with mget and
