Running R remotely in Windows Environment?
We are considering setting up a fast, RAM loaded machine as an "R-server" to handle the big problems not suitable for individual desktops and, also, to process ad hoc analysis requests via our portal. We are 99% a Windows shop, so first choice is a windows server. We'll use (D)COM for the portal interface and understand that. What has me stumped is how to easily interface

ACLs with samba
Hi- I am experiencing some odd behavior with ACLs with winbindd using Samba 2.6 on Debian Woody (kernel version 2.4.18). 1. I am unable to alter permissions from Win2K clients using the Properties->Security interface. Is this normal? I get the "Unable to save Permission Changes on new Folder. Access is denied." message. This occurs with all accounts, both privileged and

Error Code 12
Hi I am new to this list - hello all. I think I might be re asking a well trodden question but here goes.... I have cygwin set up on a Windows XP box and intend to use rsync (version 2.6.3) as a client to push a bunch of file to a debain (Sarge) server. The Debain server runs a rsync daemon (version 2.6.4). I have set up the system to use a secrets file at both ends. When I tr...

[LLVMdev] LLVM and managed languages
...'m working on an LLVM backend for the Scala compiler[1], so I'm very interested in the issues you discuss here. Some of them I have encountered myself already and others I can see on the horizon. I am new to the list and offer apologies and request pointers if I cover ground that's been trodden before. Shoulda
Hey, we''re currently using shoulda (http://dev.thoughtbot.com/ shoulda/) on a project and I saw some things that would be really nice to see in rspec, namely the should_ methods, and especially the should_be_restful method. Do these go against the rspec goals at all? Or could an ambitious programmer go to town implementing these for rspec_on_rails? Nathan Sutton fowlduck at

Bug#771441: tftpd: don't use AI_CANONNAME and AI_ADDRCONFIG to resolve addresses for bind
...ects your patch does. If: > I'm only saying "don't refuse to work as good as you can". Then why would you insist this crazy patch, which just crudely kludges over a limited subset of the issues with hotplugged interfaces, leaving others still broken - is better than one well-trodden solution which fits all cases? I don't use NM, so if someone who does wants us to add such a hook for it to this package, they'll need to send a tested patch to do that. I'll happily include it (and then close this clone of the bug) if they do. Bonus points if you also send one for i...

Searching for Doku Samba with LDAP
Hy * I'm searching for Doku acting as an PDC in an Windows environment. I was able to set up the Ldap-Directory itself, storing the Users in the Directory, this all is working. But was not able to let the Workstations join the Domain. Here i don't find Dokumentation about it. Can anyone send me links about Dokumentation about LDAP and Samba, acting as an PDC. Thank you very much

ACL: some maybe stupid questions
Hi. I want to use ACL on my RH-9.0 box (x86), so I got ext3 ACL patch from http://acl.bestbits.at/ and tried to apply it to the kernel that ships with RH (2.4.20-8). The patching fails on some vm file so I got a vanila kernel 2.4.20, apply the patch and compile it. This works fine. Also RH-9.0 precompiled Samba 2.2.7 works fine with ACL. I connected to my share with WinXP and do some testing

Best practices for creating bricks
Hello, I am working with several Dell PE720xd. I have 24 disks per server at my disposal with a high end raid card with 1GB RAM and BBC. I will be building a distributed-replicated volume. Is it better for me to set up one or two large RAID0 arrays and use those as bricks, or should I make each hard drive a brick? This will be back end storage for an image search engine with lots of small file

Redhat ACL support
Hi, I'm trying to setup a RedHat 8 fileserver, it must work seamlessly within our 2000/NT network. After some research, I believe the first thing I need to do is install ACL support. I tried doing this once, didn't go well, had to reinstall RedHat. What files do I need and from where, to install ACL support for RedHat 8?

Samba 3 + PDC + LDAP machine accounts
Hiya all, this should hopefully be a simple question. I've noticed that their is a setting: ldap machine suffix Allowing you to put all the machine accounts in a different tree in your ldap directory (which is a definate plus). However, I note, that it is almost impossible to do so. Has anyone done this (eg had machines in ou=Machines,dc=domain,dc=com and people in ou=People,dc=domain,dc=com)?

samba-ldap-debian
Hi all, I'm pretty new with all this ... but I know that you can configure samba with the ldap module by doing : ./configure --with-ldap But how do you proceed with apt from Debian as the only module which concerns samba is : apt-get install samba. it is probably a small silly question but thanx for your help anyway...

DID IT! - Samba 2.2.8a+LDAP+PDC
I am so stoked I just had to share this with y'all. I just "SEAMLESSLY" migrated all of my machines and users over to my new Gentoo Linux Server. I even kept the same: domain name and old PDC NetBios name. The trickiest part was getting all of the users to keep their same profile, but I managed that by cloning the RID and Lanman/NT hashes for the user accounts. Free at last! #

Encryption
Hi All, I am using rsync to backup our office server to our Internet server (RHE). As an association for doctors we are looking at providing a backup service for their practices using rsync. As it would be patient data it would need to be encrypted. I have found a few options, namely esync wurt rsyncrypto Does anyone have experience with the above and perhaps like to recommend one? Question about Running C code from R
Dear R-devel, Apologies for sending what is probably a very simple question to R-devel: I am definitely missing something very simple and can't work out what it is. I've been trying to find the problem here for about a month and need some help! I am trying to work out how to run a C program from an R script. Rather than try the C program directly, I'm trying to get a much simpler
