DNS Proxy - WINS problem - please help
Here is my scenario when a client wants to resolve a name on my local
network:
CLIENT --> VPN --> SAMBA --> DNS
The client is set up like so:
DNS1 = ISP DNS1 (204.26.64.1)
DNS2 = ISP DNS2 (204.26.80.3)
WINS1 = my samba1 (10.10.1.5)
WINS2 = my samba2 (10.10.1.8)
This all _seemed_ to have worked 3 days ago for roughly 6 months but
stopped suddenly without me doing anything.

install 2.2.0 ssl troubles
Hello!
Here are my specs.
Slackware 7.1
OpenSSL 0.9.6a
Samba 2.2.0 downloaded today
It claims that it cant find ssl.h
Here is my configure line:
./configure --prefix=/usr --with-ssl
--with-sslinc=/usr/local/ssl/include/openssl --with-smbmount
--enable-debug
I verified that ssl.h is in /usr/local/ssl/include/openssl
Any ideas?
Thank you

Replacing digital pri card
I need to replace our current 1 port pri card with a quad port card. I'm
currently using the newest AsteriskNOW distro. Are there any issues I should
expect to run into? I'm hoping the transition will be smooth, however I
havent had to do this in the past.

passwd chat debug = yes
I am using ldap to store everything. Auth works and the pdc stuff all

join 2000 box to domain - troubles
Hello,
I am trying to join a 2000 box to my domain. I go through the steps and
it tells me "Logon Failure:". I am guessing that if it got to this
point, that a machine account exists and everything is good there....
I am using 'administrator' as the user. This user is part of the group
'Domain Admins'. In my smb.conf I have this set:

copy d:\bugs.ps \\ouessant\lexmark
after having deleted all the samba log files and restarted the SMBd daemon from the SWAT Web interface.
This leads to the INTERNAL ERROR, see samba.oulx
Now, to locate the problem, I tried the same kind of command on the same file, bugs.ps, but using the SMBCLIENT application from the Linux server itself, without changing anything, nor restarting the SMBd

is turned on. Can anybody
kind to confirm with me?
Our network is using a mix of Win2k server, Win2k Pro, Win98, Win95 and
WinMe machines, where the
Win2k server is the domain controller and terminal service applications
server and the Samba is a member
fileserver of the domain. All workstations logon and mount the samba file
services.
We'd like to check if the problem could be solved by

Compiling snmp_res.so into AsteriskNow install
I installed AsteriskNow1.7 and am trying to load the res_snmp module to
monitor the system. Am I correct in saying that compiling asterisk from
source and including the module is the only way to accomplish this? I?m a
little worried about simply downloading the same source version as my
current build (asterisk 1.6.1.2.11-2) and running a make menuselect?
Thanks!

problem with permissions for smbmount
here is the command I am running:
mount -t smbfs -o uid=514,gid=515,username=backup,password=XXXXXXXX,rw
//hades/html /mnt/hades_html
I have went a step further to make sure that the username and groupname
"backup" have matching UIDs and GIDs. I cannot seem to write to the share.
I can go in as the user on the remote box and write just fine. This is
rather frustrating because I know I

windows update - possibilities
Hello,
I am a Linux guy stuck in a windows world on my network. I would like
to find a way to automagically update my windows clients. I am looking
for a similar thing to the Redhat network. I am wondering if there is
any way to use samba as the negotiator for something like this. Has
anyone else pondered this at all? I am asking here because no one knows
more about integrating windows

intermittent network neigborhood
Hello,
I have a WINS setup where my clients are on a different subnet. Some
can see the samba server and some cannot. All can login to the domain
fine and all can explicitly define a share like \\server\share but only
a few can BROWSE network neighborhood. Any ideas on what I should be
looking for here?
thank you!

I am kinda confused as to how to get some values for ldap.
For example, here is an ldif entry:

lmPassword: 552902031BEDE9EFAAD3B435B51404EE
primaryGroupID: 1201
objectClass: posixAccount
objectClass: sambaAccount
acctFlags: [UX ]

trouble with smbpasswd - ldap
Hello,
I compiled with --with-ldapsam... I am simply trying to use normal
smbpasswd auth to get things started. I try:
smbpasswd -D 5 -a td to set the password for the username "td" and it
gives me these error messages:
ldap_open_connection: connection opened
Bind failed: Can't contact LDAP server

I just ran across this myself. I guess I dont understand why there
needs to be machine names in /etc/passwd if you are storing everything
in LDAP. Am I missing a configuration option here? Can one of you
samba geniuses point me in the right direction please?
Thank you!
