RFC: Improving license & patent issues in the LLVM community
I really really do not like armchair lawyer discussions and this is just flamebait if I've ever seen it... --------------- #1 Is the submarine patent risk really that bad? (What's driving this) #2 Pragmatically have "you" even considered how to execute on this relicense plan? a. What if one of the copyright holders doesn't agree? b. What audit procedure do you plan to use c.

Cisco media gateways in general
Greetings, After the 0 respones I had on my previous mail regarding the Cisco 2801, I thought I'd be more general. Is anybody using Cisco media gateways at all? If so, how is it working for you? -- Kind regards, Meilleures salutations, Bas van der Veen GnuPG key: http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x9E890160 "The question of whether a computer can think is no

Theora patent question
Does the reason Theora is relatively safe from patent infringement lawsuit have more to do with it actually not being encumbered, or is it because its use is decentralized? For example, FreeType is not patent-free, nor is Linux, yet they succeed because on the one hand, they are open source, and those who maintain them do not guarantee anything regarding patents, it is up to each individual user

transfering decoder state
Hi Jean Marc and everyone else :-) I am a bit of an alien here, my expertise is not at all in DSP: I am in network games and recently I started to work in a team dedicated to audio for games. Our prefered codec is speex, mainly for its quality/bandwidth ratio and of course because it is open source. You DSP guys would probably curse us if you saw what kind of ugly things we do to compressed

temporary setups for ICEcast at festivals?
Hi : I am new to ICEcast, and really am just starting to get to grips with the ability of community radio, however I have a reason to look into the set up process and concepts some more, while I work with people in the Pacific region on using information communications technologies (ICT's) to empower learning networks, the foundations of indigenous music, and communities which have lots to

vfat is not working with ext3 patch
...ernel makes everything work fine again. I asked Andries but he doesn't think is a mount problem, so what do you think, is this a problem caused by ext3 patch or by vfat filesystem ? When using Network neighbourhood, we do see the samba share. When clicking on it, it prompts us for 'Connect as' and 'password'. When entering the unix login and password, it returns an error message ' \\SambaServer\\share is not accessible; the account is not authorized to login from this station'. I have atached the smb.conf file. Thankyou again. Regards Tajinder

RC2
Just thought i'd say thanks to Monty and everyone else for giving us this brilliant codec, even perhaps if it isn't done yet ;) Keep up the good work! My poorly tuned ears can't really tell the difference between (proper) CD quality and a .ogg at ~64Kbs, although i've only tried encoding a bunch of Beatles songs so far. Although there seem to be a few not quite distingushable

Steve Jobs about theora
I guess you've all read it already, but here it goes: "All video codecs are covered by patents. A patent pool is being assembled to go after Theora and other ?open source? codecs now. Unfortunately, just because something is open source, it doesn?t mean or guarantee that it doesn?t infringe on others patents. An open standard is different from being royalty free or open source. [PATCH] ocfs2: Limit default local alloc size within bitmap range.
In commit 6b82021b9e91cd689fdffadbcdb9a42597bbe764, we increase our local alloc size and calculate how much megabytes we can get according to group size and volume size. But we also need to check the maximum bits a local alloc block bitmap can have. With a bs=512, cs=32K, local volume with 160G, it calculate 96MB while the maximum local alloc size is only 76M. So the bitmap will overflow and

SAMBA PROBLEM ON LINUX
Guys, I don't know if this is the right place to ask this question but I am using Redhat 6.2 Linux and Samba 2.2.1a. We have Windows NT Workstations and 2000 servers with which we need to talk to. (Note: Can't upgrade to Redhat 7.2 or Samba 2.2.2 due to company requirements at least for a few more months.) I have a problem with a user who is trying to write to a folder called
