msdfs
Hello,
Last week I submitted a problem with msdfs on samba.
I didn't receive any reaction. I've also tried the samba-cvs version but
this
has also problems.
We really like to use msdfs from samba, because we want to put all our
homedirectories
( more than 4000 ) in one dfsroot. This is not possible with Microsoft's
dfs because this
has a limit of 1000 .... I didn't found this

Restricting browsing by share w/security=domain

lists (Network Neighborhood or smbclient -L) even though
they have absolutely no rights to the directory. I
realize this is also how NT works, but samba is usually
not bound by such things. ;-)
Here are the relevant sections of smb.conf

Using MSDFS
I've set up a dfs share according to instructions. There is one part of the instructions that I don't understand. I've checked the forum archives but can't find any examples which might help.
In the Instructions section (4.1 of the HTML Samba Project Documentation), is shows how to set up the symbolic links in a DFS share, as shown below.
I have 2 Samba servers (SMB1 and SMB2).

Sorry to keep bothering the List, but I'm still having problems with the Samba/Windows/UNIX password issue. Using RH Linux 7.0, with Samba 2.0.7, configured as shown below.

I'm just starting to test Samba and have run across a WinNT issue. The Samba server is RH 7.0, w/Samba 2.0.7. The NetBIOS name of the server is SMB1 and the workgroup is STGroup.
Win95, etc, are connecting just fine. I have 2 WinNT users participating in the test (the PC names are TEST1 and TEST2). If I set their workgroup to STGroup, they can see the Samba server in Network Neighborhood but when they select the STGroup they only see their own PCs (i.e. TEST1 or TEST2)...

method. I've tried adding the IP address of BIGSERVER to the "wins server"
box in the advanced tcp/ip setup on the PC. No change in behaviour.
Test 9: net use x: \\MYSERVER\myshare
Works from the two WIN2K clients, but not from the WIN98 client.
Test 10: nmblookup -M TESTGROUP
Only returns the name of the samba server.
Test 11: Fails from all three clients.
I would be most grateful for any pointers. My guess is that this is a
problem with nmb configuration and/or firewall settings. However,
"ipchains --list" produces:
