Failed to start polkit.service: Connection timed out

We have run into the infamous black screen problem with tigervnc under CentOS7, which prompted me to look into how vnc is configured here. https://access.redhat.com/solutions/966063 Am I reading this correctly - root needs to set up a systemd vnc service for every user and display individually? CentOS 8 gvs question
I am getting a timeout on running totem .... searching led me to think its gvs related.... Error creating proxy: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.gtk.vfs.GoaVolumeMonitor: Timeout was reached (g-io-error-quark, 24) Then totem does start - but with like a 30 second delay.
