I suggest that we shouldn't use euphemisms when it's far more valuable
to come out and say it. I would certain...

I'm not really sure that the reasons for Rhel really exist anymore. The oft
quoted Library stabilty is more of a hindrance than a help in modern
development environments with well operating CI.
When the dinosaur IBM bought RH it was clear that it had become a fossil.
Of course there is still legacy applications that need that but I see a
definite shift away from OS dependant monoliths even in t...

Problems loading chan_h323 on Opteron 64 bit
...nnection24OnUserInputInlineRFC2833ER15OpalRFC2833Infoi
When I grep /usr/local/lib/libh323... I can find occuring
_ZN14H323Connection24OnUserInputInlineRFC2833ER15OpalRFC2833Info
serveral times, but not followed by an i.
Any ideas, what I could do now? Any dirty workaround which does
not influence stabilty is also welcome.

Arguments for Samba instead of NT-Server
Hello,
Can anyone give me arguments that could convince someone to choose for
Samba for file and print sharing instead of setting up a NT-server?
Performance ?
Stability ?
Benchmarks ?
Tests that someone has done?
Things like: "It's free" or "You don't need a powerful machine" are
irrelevant to
our administrators.
I'm looking for answers on questions like:

samba tuning on a server with > 1 GB mem.Suggestions ?? + 2.2.2 problems
...o 18 GB 1000 rpm drives in raid mirror
External PERC 3/DC Megaraid controller with two raid 5 arrays consisting
of 6 36 GB 1000 rpm drives in each
Debian 2.2 with kernel 2.4 updated packages
kernel 2.4.13-ac5
samba 2.0.10
reason for 2.0.10 and not 2.2.x samba is that I experienced problems
with stabilty running 2.2 during my netbench tests. No problems at all
with 2.0.10..Anyone had similar experiences ?? It just performed slow
and consumed lots of memory hogging the machine completely..
best regards
Christian

...here are repos that Do the
Right Thing (tm) and do not blindly overwrite core packages from the
CentOS repos. There are others that do. Some of the repos that overwrite
core packages do so with little packages like sqlite (yum uses sqlite so
changing the version of it is not a Good Thing for system stabilty).
Other repos in that list have been effectively unmaintained for a number
of years so they contain packages that may have severe unfixed security
vulnerabilities.
Now as far as the term "Community Approved" goes: I think it's fairly
accurate and I'm not sure what the objection t...

Authenticating from Windows domains via winbind the easy way
...you configure your network
during installation, join the domain for you.
On Mandrake 9.0, ACLs work out-the-box on XFS via samba, and on ext2/3 if
you mount the filesystems with the'acl' mount option. On our production
servers, we have been using ACLs since Mandrake 8.2 on XFS, with no
stabilty problems. Mandrake 9.1 ships with kernel 2.4.21-pre, in which
ACLs are not enabled, so if you want to use 9.1 with ACLs, use the updates
kernel for 9.0.
By default, when setup for winbind, all pam-enabled services will
authenticate against the domain (via pam_winbind), including
KDE,gdm,ssh,im...
