printing fails for SPOOLSS OpenPrinterEx request
...f a windows XP client with a samba server.
The windows driver seems to use different ways of smb/printer communication for printing in normal/duplex mode and for printing brochures. The latter failes silently.
normal/duplex printing uses: SMB Open Print File Request
brochure printing starts with: SPOOLSS OpenPrinterEx request
I recorded the network transmission during printing and received the following for brochure printing (which fails):

disable spoolss - not working
Hi,
I don't want to have to downgrade my samba server to disable spoolss.
I'm running 2.2.3. (I assume I don't need 2.2.3a since it just fixed
an overwrite bug).
When I use "disable spoolss = no", I can access my printer
\\server\savin just fine.
When I use "disable spoolss = yes", I can see my printer (savin) in
\\server, but when I acces...

NT_STATUS_RPC_PROCNUM_OUT_OF_RANGE when printing
Hi all,
After building Samba 4.1.20 for Ubuntu 14.04 x64 I encountered this issue
when using shared printers: every time a client prints or changes printer
settings, this message is logged in the log:
dcerpc_spoolss_ReplyClosePrinter failed
[NT_STATUS_RPC_PROCNUM_OUT_OF_RANGE].
Printers print fine, so it is probably harmless, but I still wonder why
this happens.
With log level = 3 I get more details:

Almost all print driver uploads fail
Hi,
I'm working on a minimal print server setup for Windows 10/11 x64 clients.
No domain, no Kerberos, no LDAP, only a few local users on a standalone
server with some shared CUPS printers.
Printing works well.
After setting 'spoolss: os_major = 6' and 'spoolss: os_minor = 1' The
*Kyocera KX Universal Driver* has uploaded well. But, that's all.
No success uploading other print drivers, like *HP Universal Printing
PCL6* and *Canon Generic Plus PCL6
*All of them are failing with messages like:

spoolss causing driver issues
...arbage problem. (there's a bunch of
files in /usr/local/samba/printer/w32x86/3 that resembled the same
files in c:\winnt\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3).
I must have printed hundreds of pages of garbage in testing this
thing.
Rather than downgrade to samba 2.0.x, I decided to add:
disable spoolss = yes
use client driver = yes
to my smb.conf to force the deprecated "LAN Manager" feature, since
it appears to WORK fine that way! However, Now all I get is
"you do not have permission to access this printer.". I don't understand
why not. public, browseable, printable,...

WINS-road warriors-spoolss
...with opening applications such as
Word, printing and browsing print queues etc.
The problem appears to be that the entry for their computername in
the wins database is still pointing to the IP address they had while
connected remotely - the delays/slowness are caused by timeouts while
the smbd/spoolss process tries to connect to the wrong IP address.
I can get around this issue for some sites by setting disable spoolss
= yes in smb.conf thus preventing the spoolss connection to the PC
and the timeouts - however I don't see this as a long term solution.
Any suggestions appreciated - runni...

Problem One: I'm geting a lot of IPC$ connections, is it possible to get

Problem Two - and more Important : Some of my users are getting a
"spoolss.exe" error. As far as I can tell it's only the win2000 and NT4

samba-2.2.5 + spoolss + WindowsXP=DENIED? plus some
...nt patches. But I am running into two problems.
First of all, when I try to connect to the shared printer we have from any of our Windows 2000 boxes, everything works just fine, but when I try to do so from my two Windows XP boxes I get a message on the server about being denied access to the spoolss pipe. Mind you I am using the same roaming profile account across all of these machines. If I disable spoolss in the smb.conf file the two XP machines can connect but the 2000 boxes loose connectivity.
Second, on log off from the roaming profiles I have a random issue where some files will not...
