Anything to replace Statistical Models in S ("the white book")?
...I have a decent conceptual and programming understanding of trees and
ANOVA but I'd like something that might fill in details (best way to
cross-validate, missing value handling, other gotchas).
Thanks for any opinions on this.

OT: Online TTS engines?
The one I like:
http://www.rhetorical.com/cgi-bin/demo.cgi
is toast. I think they went broke or got aquired by someone. Also, is there
a Festival voice that sounds as good as Rhetorical or the AT & T stuff? The
default one is barely legible. Since Festival is a little brutal to
configure, I'd like to get someone's recommendation then go through the pain
of reconfiguring it only once.

Integration with external ASR engines
...tion for developers: what is the asterisk way to integrate with ASR
(speech recognition)?
Question to the community: has someone done anything in this direction?
On the first glance that shouldn't be too hard. One part is delivering audio
to the engine (for example,
main ASR players Nuance and Speechworks will be happy with RTP) - can be
done via RTP forking.
The other part is stopping the prompt when speech is detected (barge-in
implementation). One more
thing is adding the related commands to agi.
Any comments are welcome.
Thank you.

Speech Recognition
Does anyone know of a speech recognition module (like say yes or no, or
numbers) I guess due to the complexity of speech recognition it might just
be found in commercial applications or am I wrong like always?

"Unable to find path from G729A to ULAW" on Sipphone.com
I seem to be having a problem with transcoding and/or agreeing on a
valid codec. I am running a new image pulled from CVS at 1:30 PM CST.
The issue occurs when I try to make a call to a toll-free number over
sipphone.com.
Here's what I see in the console:

Poll - Would you pay $30-$50 for high quality speech synthesis?
Many of you are familiar with how lousy Festival sounds.
AT&T has a product, NaturalVoices, that sounds much better. There are
male & female voice fonts for US/UK/Indian English, French, Spanish,
and German.
I am considering offering a linux-based text-to-speech engine based on
the NaturalVoices runtime. An asterisk module would also be provided,
making it easy to add natural sounding
