"I have no name!" shown as username
...I am able to see all the users and groups with wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g andwbinfo -t does not report any errors. 'Getent passwd' and 'getent group' return local and domain users and groups. My problem is that when I login as a domain user, my prompt changes to 'I have no name!@Solidus', with Solidus being my gentoo box. In the /etc/pam.d/login and samba files I have specified it to use system-auth-winbind instead of system-auth. What could I be doing wrong? Also I am able to get into the home directory from the network but not my public share. Here is a print out of my smb...

Cannot access public share w/3.0.23c on gentoo
...upgraded my gentoo samba server to version 3.0.23c using the ebuild script on bugs.gentoo.org that was suggested top me on this list. I am having some trouble accessing my "public" folder and I have a "valid users = +users" for that share. I have tried using "valid users= +Solidus\users" as well and that does not work. The first way seems to work just fine on my Freebsd system. Is it just a misconfiguration of mine? Here is my smb.conf: # Global Settings [global] # Netbios Identification netbios name = Solidus workgroup = marketscan se...

Unicode conversions from JA encodings
...t mandate the use of a specific table. That's just too burdonsome for programmers. It's reasonable to suggest them, however. The major example is CP932: MS's version of Shift-JIS. Windows' conversion functions will convert SJIS 0x5C (yen symbol) to U+005C (backslash, aka REVERSE SOLIDUS.) This is for compatibility with things like filenames and C escapes; Japanese Windows systems use yen symbols for those. We don't have that compatibility problem; Ogg tags (and probably metadata, too) are best off converting SJIS 0x5C to U+00A5 (Unicode's codepoint for the yen symbol)....

samba as a domain member
Hello, I am new to this list but I have been learning to use linux/bsd and samba for the past year. so far I have been able to learn enough on my own to be able to successfully set up a functional samba server on FreeBSD and Gentoo Linux boxes. I am trying to learn how to integrate them into an Active Directory windows 2003 server domain. So far I have verified that Kerberos and ldap and winbind
