Latest debian (testing) version crashed strangely
Hi there,
First post to this list - apologies if there's a more appropriate
place for discussion of debian specific builds, but this looks like
a generic-enough bug.

kernel on Athlon machine. WinXpPro client machine opening a mapped
drive from samba share in a "Add attachment" dialog in Mozilla 1.4.

Samba backtrace on network copy
Hi all,
I have an issue when copying large amounts of small files (say 10,000 or
so) from a Samba share across the network.
On a Windows machine it errors with:
"Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller,
either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied.".
Linux just says it can't find the file.
The log file says something like

smb_panic + Backtrace
Hi all
After running samba 3.0.0 for a couple of days I get messages like this in
my logs which look a bit suspicious :-) to me.
Anyone knows what this is all about? The result ist that copy jobs etc. are
just signing off.
Sorry for not entering this in the bugzilla thing. I am not too familiar
using it.
The samba version is 3.0.0 running against ldap 2.1.22

difficulties in rid mappings in 3.0.25
I use the sernet samba packages on debian sarge and have problems after
upgrading to 3.0.25 with rid mappings.
My rid configuration for 3.0.24 looks like this
idmap backend = rid:ISC=500-100000000
idmap uid = 500-100000000
idmap gid = 500-100000000
after updating to 3.0.25 I get a core dump of winbind (log at the end of
the post) with these settings.
I tried to use the new configuration

Hi Andrew,
Also the problem only exists when the share is accessed by hostname (not IP
address), the hostname is something like 'smb-share'.
Thanks in advance,

smbd wont start

smbd and pdbedit segfault
Greetings!
I've got a Debian server running Samba that has a rather odd problem I
was hoping someone out there could help with.
Whenever a particular user is referenced, either in in smbd or pdbedit,
a segfault or security context stack overflow is generated.
Here is what I have tried to fix the problem:
Used tdbbackup on all the *.tdb files I could find and replaced the

Preamble: I was reading in the OpenLDAP faq-o-matic that as of 2.1, LDAP
clients (or specifically the LDAP client libraries) need to know how to
find the certificate when connecting via SSL or TLS.
As of 3.0, I've been getting a Samba internal error when setting ldap ssl
= start tls in the smb.conf file. testparm checks out ok (My samba server
is configured as a Role_Domain_PDC server). This
