Is LSI SAS3081E-R suitable for a ZFS NAS ?
According to various posts the LSI SAS3081E-R seems to work well with OpenSolaris. But I''ve got pretty chilled-out from my recent problems with Areca-1680''s. Could anyone please confirm that the LSI SAS3081E-R works well ? Is hotplug supported ? Anything else I should know before buying one of these cards ? Thanks, Arnau...

LSAI SAS SATA card and MB comptability questions?
Hello, I am new to open solaris and am trying to setup a ZFS based storage solution. I am looking at setting up a system with the following specs: Intel BOXDG33FBC Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66Ghz 2 or 4 GB ram For the drives I am looking at using a LSI SAS3081E-R I''ve been reading around and it sounds like LSI solutions work well in terms of compatability with solaris. Could someone help me verify this? Or are there any alternate cards I should be looking at? I''m looking at having a max of 12 HDs so I''d use this card in conj...

CentOS 6, mptfusion software?
Hi, folks, Got an older Dell R410, with an LSI 1068E PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS (rev 08). It *appears* that a) trying MegaRaid, and b) from what I'm googling, that what I need are mptfusion-related packages. Unfortunately, yum shows me nothing available in base, epel, or rpmfusion. Am I looking for the wrong thing, or does anyone have a source (no, I haven't looked at LSI, sorry

CentOS 6, mptfusion software?
...ve SAS drives, and you can use linux native mdraid on it (and/or LVM or whatever). I believe the 1068E was used on the SAS3081/3082 cards thats an older SAS1 card, and has 2TB disk limits, I believe, which can't readily be circumvented. Confusing, but to flash these, you need to get the SAS3081ER_Package_P21_IR_IT_Firmware_BIOS_for_MSDOS_Windows, unzip it, and locate the firmware and BIOS files for IT mode, then get the flash2sas utility for Linux to actually flash the files. or flash it using MSDOS (freedos on a usb stick) or using EFI shell (if your system is so endowed). to find t...

ZFS, SATA, LSI and stability
...o X7DBE box using AOC-SAT2-MV8 Marvell controllers and opensolaris snv79 (same as described here: http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-66-233341-1) we just start over using new hardware and opensolaris 2008.05 upgraded to snv94. We used again a supermicro X7DBE but now with two LSI SAS3081E SAS controllers. And guess what? Now we get these error-messages in /var/adm/messages: Aug 11 18:20:52 thumper2 scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /pci at 0,0/pci8086,2690 at 1c/pci1000,3140 at 0/sd at 5,0 (sd11): Aug 11 18:20:52 thumper2 Error for Command: read(10) Erro...

...e: > Perfect. Which means good ol'' supermicro would come through :) WOHOO! > > AOC-USAS-L8i > > http://www.supermicro.com/products/accessories/addon/AOC-USAS-L8i.cfm Is this card new? I''m not finding it at the usual places like Newegg, etc. It looks like the LSI SAS3081E-R, but probably at 1/2 the cost. -B -- Brandon High bhigh at freaks.com "The good is the enemy of the best." - Nietzsche

Apparent SAS HBA failure-- now what?
My setup: A SuperMicro 24-drive chassis with Intel dual-processor motherboard, three LSI SAS3081E controllers, and 24 SATA 2TB hard drives, divided into three pools with each pool a single eight-disk RAID-Z2. (Boot is an SSD connected to motherboard SATA.) This morning I got a cheerful email from my monitoring script: "Zchecker has discovered a problem on bigdawg." The full output is...

Best 1.5TB drives for consumer RAID?
Which consumer-priced 1.5TB drives do people currently recommend? I had zero read/write/checksum errors so far in 2 years with my trusty old Western Digital WD7500AAKS drives, but now I want to upgrade to a new set of drives that are big, reliable and cheap. As of Jan 2010 it seems the price sweet spot is the 1.5TB drives. As I had a lot of success with Western Digital drives I thought I would
