samba start problem
I decided to use S99samba in /etc/rc2.d, during the boot up i see the message "samba started" or something like that but when i log in and do "ps -ef|grep mbd" i do not see neither smbd nor nmbd running. PC side gives me the error "computer not found" message. I move the S99samba to /etc/rc3.d...

Samba 2.2.8.a for Solaris
Hi, I just downloaded and installed samba2.2.8.a on a sun4u sparc box running Solaris8. The installation process completed w/o errors and I can now confirm that by "$pkginfo -l samba". I can even start and stop samba by "/etc/rc3.d/S99samba.server start" and see that smbd and nmbd processes are running. However, I can not find the "configure" file in the source directory to execute for initial configuration. For that matter I can not even find "source" directory. I would greatly appreciate a reply with some i...

...o?. I do not think that it is the "passwd encryption" thing since both systems have the same smb.conf. smbpasswd file on both are the same and they are in binary format. Another problem that I have is that sometimes my samba is not starting after reboots. I have added the following S99samba to the /etc/rc3.d. I do not know why not?. sAm #!/sbin/sh # # Start Samba SMB file/print services # Set environment PATH=/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin export PATH # Samba directory SAMBA_DIR=/opt/samba SAMBA_SMBD_DEBUG_LEVEL=0 SAMBA_NMBD_DEBUG_LEVEL=0 SAMBA_SMBD_LOG=/var/opt/samba/log.smb SAMBA_N...

Samba, Winbind, and netatalk on Solaris 8
I am having difficulty getting Netatalk to authenticate using NT Domain via Winbind. I have Samba successfully installed, and winbindd is working and running. (Tested via wbinfo) I have placed pam_winbind.so in the /usr/lib/security directory, and have installed netatalk with the --with-pam option, but I still cannot seem to get it working. Any help would be appreciated. John Helt Systems

Lots of Samba (smbd) processes
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew why there would be so many Samba (smbd) processes running on my SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 system? I found an awful lot of them running, much more that what I would expect given the number of Windows PC's on the network. One of the users was having trouble accessing a file on the SCO system, and that is when I discovered this. I actually had to write a program

...se directories (where the digit is equal to the run-level) will be activated with a 'stop' argument when proceeded by a K and with the 'start' argument when proceeded with an S. THey are run in the order that they are listed from the file system, so S01SAMBA would be run before S99Samba. This also gives you control over the order of activation of your services (making sure that, for example, any ipchains rules are applied before you activate Samba, of you need to take this precaution). Runlevels at boot are controlled in the /etc/inittab. Hope this helps. Chris Travers >...
