How to handle secure AD dynamic DNS registrations?
Hi,
My apologies for the newbie question/dumb-question-of-the-day but when searching the archives I couldn't see the wood for the trees :-/
Are there any good walkthroughs/RTFMs out there for troubleshooting getting samba to register DNS entries to an AD controller that requires secure updates?
I have a CentOS 6 server that seems to be set up correctly. Initially it worked fine, but then the AD controllers expired the DNS entries. As samba doesn't seem to natively re...

Windows Shell Command under Vista
...tion
below does not really work, getwd() is always in \windows\system32. I tried
several cmd.exe "..." variations, without success (strangled by "\""\"?) And
a nasty feature of Vista is the long delay of 19 seconds until a command box
comes up on my computer.
To avoid RTFMs: I know how to do this with setwd().

samba (vs. nfs) in all unix environment
Hi,
I'm sorry if this is a very FAQ, I've been googling around and searchin'
the list archive and I'll gladly accept RTFMs with somehow precise URLs
(including URLs to the list archives).
I'm on the drawing board (no equipment yet) for a server farm that will
have a SteelEye linux cluster behind to provide (among other services)
with networked file access.
The setup is all-linux (likely RHEL 2.1, less likely R...

...the Windows profile (startmenu, desktop,

Another problem with the printers:
You can install them on the clients (NT 4, Serive Pack 6) only as admin,
but you can't use them as user afterwards.
Any help/hints/rtfms?

2. When my Win95 clients send a job, the job is attributed to the

usernames. Is this possible? I need to do accounting/quotas/billing for
print jobs.
I appreciate any examples, hints, and RTFMs you might throw my way. I'll
summarize.

about the function order()
...empirical distribution function).
Hower the following made me think I have been misusing order():
> a <- c(4.1, 3.2, 6.1, 3.1)
> order(a)
[1] 4 2 1 3
>
> a <- rnorm(50)
> plot(a, order(a)/50)
My question is, what is really order() doing ?
(This question is like asking for RTFMs... I have no problem with that,
I just could not find much in the pdf about R I had).
Thanking in advance an help,
Laurent

problem (and solution) to rle on vector with NA values
Hello there R-help,
I'm not sure if this should be posted here - so apologies if this is the case.
I've found a problem while using rle and am proposing a solution to the issue.
Description:
I ran into a niggle with rle today when working with vectors with NA values
(using R 2.31.0 on Windows 7 x64). It transpires that a run of NA values
is not encoded in the same way as a run of other
