Samba with revalidate, posibile bug!
Hello Samba experts, I have a simple problem: i tried to use according to ch06_03.html manual page, directive revalidate in smb.conf config file. In smb.conf, i use directive security = share, but for a particular share (grant aces with user and pass) i want to use revalidate = yes option. The problem is that this feature is not working! 1. i used testparm to check the smb.conf file, and it said that: bad sintax......

Windoze don't forget username/password (revalidate=yes why not working?)
....20-grsecurity Samba: 2.2.8a status: samba up, and running Problem: If I use a usrname/password on client machines, (win98 and winxp/2k) I could not log on as an other user to the machine, only if I logout, or reboot the client. I1ve read in O'reilly's samba book, that there is an option revalidate. But testparm says, it is unknown. How can I solve this? I want the users to log in every time, once they've closed the explorer's network view. I tried many options, like keepalive and deadtime, change notify timeout, etc. But no one is working. Samba acts as a master browser, but does...

[PATCH] nvc0: fix geometry program revalidation of clipping params
Signed-off-by: Ilia Mirkin <imirkin at alum.mit.edu> Cc: mesa-stable at lists.freedesktop.org --- Even though in practice a geometry program will never be using UCP's, we still were revalidating (aka recompiling) the program when more clip planes became enabled (which also are used for regular clip distances). This seems like it should have led to massive fail, but I guess you

write_socket_data: write failure. Error = Broken pipe
Hi: I am running Samba 1.9.17 at SUN Solaris 2.6 and it works well. After I upgrade Samba 2.0.3 or 2.0.5a, my Excel spreadsheets got trouble. In the Samba log file I got: [1999/08/23 10:45:32, 0] lib/util_sock.c:write_socket_data(570) write_socket_data: write failure. Error = Broken pipe Anybody has an idea what is the problem? I

password revalidation samba
Hello, I recently upgraded my server from samba 2.2 to Samba 3.0.14a. Samba is running as PDC. Now i got a strange thing when someone tries to access a share for which (s)he is not authorised, a popup box shows up on the W2K client asking for name and password again, while this used to be a popup box with the announcement that the user is not authorised to access the share. Why is this popup box

Getting samba to require authentication on every connection
I am using Samba Version 2.2.5. I would like Samba to prompt my clients for authentication every time they connect. I tried using the "revalidate" param but it does not seem to work, its gives the following error in my log: [2002/07/04 15:42:06, 0] param/loadparm.c:map_parameter(2065) Unknown parameter encountered: "revalidate" [2002/07/04 15:42:06, 0] param/loadparm.c:lp_do_parameter(2740) Ignoring unknown parameter &quo...

limiting authentication duration
...Windows just autoreconnects. I tried restarting the Samba service but that doesn't work either. Even "smbcontrol smbd close-share * " doesn't prevent autoreconnection. In the O'Reilly book "Using Samba" (second edition) the section on Share-Level Security mentions a REVALIDATE=YES option which I thought might be relevant. However testparm identifies this as an "unknown parameter". (BTW, revalidate does not appear in the index nor in the Configuration Option appendix of the second edition, so I suspect this is a deprecated option, although it was not remov...

Ajax, the Back button, and Sweepers
I''m working on an app that''s basically forms and that makes fairly heavy use of Ajax. As a result of the Ajax usage, if the visitor uses the back button they get the page as it was originally loaded, not as they left it. I''ve looked at the Sweeper documentation and can not tell for sure that it''ll do what I want, which is to force an unconditional reload from

Bad file modification date/time stamps created from windows clients
I'm running samba server version 3.0.28a on an HP-UX pa-risc machine with XP-pro windows clients. When a windows client creates a new file on the samba share the modification time is not set correctly. On the HP-UX side date/time stamp shows as: % ls -l README -rwxr--r-- 1 e6b564 users 1081 Dec 13 1901 README The date/time stamp is always "Dec 13 1901" ?

needing UNSELECT to notice new mail?
...is dovecot complying with the IMAP spec here? Is there some notion of a transaction bracketed by SELECT/{UNSELECT,CLOSE}, and is that using something like READ COMMITTED isolation so that it doesn't see messages added by other transactions? Or should dovecot be not relying on cached state and revalidate the mailbox on STATUS, even if it is already SELECTED? Further, is it the group's opinion that a well-behaved client would UNSELECT or CLOSE when the user takes an action that indicates being finished with a mailbox? Or is it reasonable to leave a mailbox SELECTed as an optimization. It se...

Slow initial access to shares
Hi * The first time a share is being accesed on a Samba server from a W95 machine, it takes some 10 seconds to open the share. Subsequent accesses to the same share ot other shares on the server are fast. After not accessing the server for a while again the first access is really slow. The same thing happens on a network (80 users) running Samba 2.0.4b server under HPUX 10.20 and two Samba 2.0.3
