connection speeds between nodes
Hi All,
I've been asked to setup a 3d renderfarm at our office , at the start it
will contain about 8 nodes but it should be build at growth. now the
setup i had in mind is as following:
All the data is already stored on a StorNext SAN filesystem (quantum )
this should be mounted on a centos server trough fiber optics , which
in its turn sha...

Wine with Renderpal -> Communication Error
...win32 application called "Renderpal" on my Ubuntu 9.10 server. The application is a render farm manager for CG/VFX. The main task for this application is to create renderjobs from the 3D/2D application (like Autodesk Maya, Adobe After Effects and such) and dispatch those jobs to a network-renderfarm with several client computers.
Usually this is done on a "x frames per job" basis, because the rendered output files are image sequences. So the manager says something like: "Machine12, please render the frames 12 to 16 from scene y:\dir\projectfile.ext"
The job gets submitted t...

winbind craps out, NT_STATUS_PIPE_BROKEN
...rs that are most certainly not cached.
I also see a lot of noise in the logs about "more than 200 winbind connections, cleaning up idle connections". This particular server usually has at least 400 client connections all the time, and a good chunk of those are rather active (distributed renderfarm). I see that smb.conf will recognize "winbind max clients" in 3.6. I also understand that I could change WINBINDD_MAX_SIMULTANEOUS_CLIENTS and recompile a new winbindd, but that's not an option for me for a few weeks.

Transport End Point
...ing seems to help. The only thing that seems to limit excessive
sleeping smbd processes is the "dead time = 1" option. I set this at a low
value and it seems to have reduced the number of smbd process.
I have 120 workstations that connect to the four servers and approx. 60
servers in a renderfarm that make connections every few minutes as each
frame is rendered and the next one is started. So I get this transport end
point error a lot. I'm concerned that this error might be slowing down the
network with excessive re-connect requests. Any thoughts?
Cheers...Jason
