If you do much business on the Internet, as I do, you probably use a password manager to manage dozens or even hundreds of passwords. Anyway, Win98 says that a password is req'd for \\Server\$IPC, and I tried a number of different pwds, the ones I set up for these accounts, and I am always told that that is the wrong pwd. Encryption is turned on in the smb.conf, and after each change in smb.con I run samba restart. Anyway, I am totally lost as to what to do. I am running a RedHat 5.2 setup w/ kernel 2.2.6 and Samba 2.0.3

...ot;sambaPwdMustChange" are quite old, but the LDAP-Value "sambaMaxPwdAge" for the object "sambaDomain" itself is set to "-1". As far as i understand, this should ever cover the "old-passwords-problem" and in indeed msgina.dll does not claim about old pwds. But nwgina seems to act in a different way. As we noticed in the nwgina.log, it is first asking if username and password apply and then it is asking about the password age. If I open up my smbpasswd file, it looks like this: drrl:501:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:[UD]:LCT-402FFFE4: Is there anyway/format that I can add a usr/pwd to this file in plain-text so I can test it? I'm stumped as to how to tell which pwds samba is using for log-ins. -Darrel

A co-worker argues we can login using only password to a "ssh-key restricted host (PasswordAuthentication no)", without being asked by any passphase; just by putting a key (no need to be the private key) on another password-based host. It that true? I do not think so. I would name that as an "important OpenSSH daemon security bug". That is because I think it is not true.
