...ta (example follows). I've been using the three for different purposes but I would rather like to know which is more adapted to what task. Here is the data I'm currently working on: 200 observations, each observation being a vector of length 1000 depending on several factors ("polarisation", "pitch", "dose", "size") > x <- seq(1,100,length = 1000) > observations <- matrix( rnorm(200*1000), ncol = 200) > > # factors > polarisation <- rep(c("0","90"), each = 100, length = 200) > pitch <- rep(1:5, le...

advice/opinion on "<-" vs "=" in teaching R
Hi R People: I'm teaching a statistical computing class using R starting next week (yay!) and I have an opinion type question, please. I'm old school and use "<-" in an assignment. However, I'm starting to see the "=" in the literature. Which should I use or does it matter, please? Thanks for your input! Sincerely, Erin -- Erin Hodgess Associate Professor

[fdo] Code of Conduct questions
Hi, I've cross-posted this to freedesktop@, as the xdg@ list is only used for actual specification development. easing out of Excel
I know enough about R to be dangerous and our marketing people have asked me to "automate" some reporting. Data comes from an SQL source and graphs and various summaries are currently created manually in Excel. The raw information is invoicing records and the reporting is basically summaries by customer, region, product line etc. With function such as aggregate(), hist() and pareto()

How can we improve WNE?
Hello everybody. I'm a (quite) happy WINE user, but i would like to propose some things to the WINE developers. Something important imo, is that it must be easy to use for the user, and some things could be better, here are some ideas to improve it by using Winecfg: 1. Add an option to disable/enable/edit debug channels for all programs. As you may know, a lot of programs runs faster

Resuming the discussion of establishing an LLVM code of conduct
Greetings all, This has come up a few times, and I would like to resume the effort to establish an LLVM code of conduct. First and foremost, many thanks to Philip Reames who sat down with me several months ago and worked through a number of suggestions that I've tried to incorporate into an updated patch with the draft text: http://reviews.llvm.org/D13741 I think his updates plus a few
