Graphics problem with old W95 game (Panzer General 2)
Hello all, Ubuntu (Dapper) newbie here. I installed Ubuntu two days ago. Also installed Wine. Wine appears somewhat ok. I installed and can run Filezilla. I also have a windows game (Steel Panthers World at War) that installed ok, and appears to play ok, though the movement is a little slow and a little choppy. Anyways, I'm trying to run a W95 game, Panzer General 2. The Wine site says it

Re: Panzer General 2 - Railroad Tycoon 2
Okay, I still can't get Panzer General 2 working. (same problem in bugzilla that Mars is having - no maps or units showing). BUT, I have managed to get Railroad Tycoon 2 working. Very weird, but I've found if I start it up and then eject the CD from the CD Drive and wait till it ejects (takes about five minutes), then the program starts working. Only difficulty I'm having is the

Panzer General 2 - Railroad Tycoon 2
My apologies for being a total Wine NOOB. I've been trying to get anything to work on Wine (with little success). Panzer General II is supposed to be rated as Gold. I can get it to load fine. It starts, and I can even get to the start of a scenario/campaign. The main problem is it doesn't load the maps or anything into the map area. I ran winedbg and got this:

Does anyone have any experience using a zip drive as a read-only medium for storing things like tripwire files, PGP signed keys and kernels? portmap vulnerability?
Are there any known vulnerabilities in portmap (redhat''s portmap-4.0-7b)? I''ve been receiving a lot of attempts to access the portmap port on some linuxppc machines I administer by various machines which clearly have no business with mine, and I wonder if this is an attempt to break in to my machines. I''ve searched some archives, but I haven''t yet found any

Game shrinks virtual desktop
I like playing Panzer General 2. The problem I have is that it runs at 800x600, no option. If I play it without virtual desktop it takes over the whole desktop and I cannot do anything else, but play it. If I try play it on a virtual desktop, it then shrinks it down to a quarter of my desktop. My regular desktop is set at 1280x1024, the virtual desktop I set at 1100x900(approx), but instead of

OK, two of the windows programs I had installed suddenly started working (Ares and BitChe :P), and one game stopped working (Codename Panzers: Phase One [Crying or Very sad]). I wasn't able to add new applications to winecfg. When I checked the version number in the command line I kept getting 1.2.2. So I decided to try uninstalling and reinstalling. I eventually got the pieces uninstalled, although I had to restart to do it -- I gue...

writable = yes for Profiles in smb.conf.default
Hello all I'm suggesting to add line 'writable = yes' for Profiles share in file examples/smb.conf.default. Then the complete share def looked like ;[Profiles] ; path = /usr/local/samba/profiles ; browseable = no ; guest ok = yes ; writable = yes The reason is simply I spent two days figuring out why my Samba PDC did not work. That line was missing. Not very clever, I
