samba, win98, and browse list problem.
Hello,
Here's a repost on my message of a few days ago, for reasons that I'm
not sure if it went through. If it did, my apologies, all suggestions
welcome.
I'm having an identical problem on slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd
3.4-release and windows 98-2, with sp1, and samba 2.05 and 2.06,
depending on which system I've got up. Whenever I restart samba for
whatever reason, making a

[abrock@classroom-dhcp abrock]$ nmblookup -A x.x.5.154
Sending queries to 198.106.77.255
Looking up status of x.x.5.154
received 6 names

When comparing this with another machine, I noticed that there was no

Browsing across subnets
I would like to know how to view a samba server on a different subnet than
the client workstation resides. For example, I have a Samba 1.9.18p3 server
in subnet 'a' and a NT 4.0 client in subnet 'b'. The Samba server does not
show up when the NT client double-clicks on the Network Neighborhood.
However, if the client does a Find:computer it will find the server, and
shares can be

This is _not_ a Samba problem since the smbfs in FreeBSD 4.x also fails
to connect to shares and likewise samba-tng (2.6 alpha).
However, since there is no one I can ask here about CIFS on the filer,
expert advice would be very welcome.
FWIW, ethereal shows the negotiated prot...

nmblookup
Newbie question. If I type nmblookup __some other machine__ I get the
correct response from Samba. If I type nmblookup __mymachine__ then I get an
error yhat it is not found. So if nmbd is not setup right, how do I fix it?
