some notes about rails, apache, fastcgi and windows
hello.
i''d like to share some feelings of mine after a couple of *weeks*
intermittent attempts to have rails applications working on windows
(XP) with fastcgi performances under apache (2.0).
i''d say the software stack i''m using now will be fairly common as more
and more new rails developers will join the bandwagon.
what is stunning me is the fact that, even if

Probs installing ruby-fcgi on Linux
Hi. I''ve installed fcgi 2.4.0 on a CentOS 4.2 box without problems using:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/fcgi --exec-prefix=/usr/local/fcgi
make && make install
When I try to install ruby-fcgi bindings I get the following:
[root@machine ruby-fcgi-0.8.6]# ruby install.rb config --
--with-fcgi-lib=/usr/local/fcgi/lib
--with-fcgi-include=/usr/local/fcgi/include

tzinfo_timezone/tzinfo can't modify frozen object
Hi.
I get the following error off and on in my app. I''m running latest
EdgeRails in development mode, and use the tzinfo_timezone plugin and
the tzinfo 0.3.3 gem.
I''ve checked line 210 in tzinfo_timezone.rb but cannot relate that to
an object modification in tzinfo. Any tips much appreciated.

class Group < AR
has_many :users
end
Is it in any way possible to retain reference to the old users when
they get replaced using group.users=(new_users) ?
The below doesn''t work but illustrates what I''m looking for:
class Group < AR
has_many :users
def users=(new_users)
@old_users = users
write_attribute(''users'', new_users)

Time zone mapping from TimeZone to TZInfo::Timezone
Hi. Using this:
<%= time_zone_select("account", "time_zone" %>
I get a list of time zones options, like eg.:
<option value="Athens">(GMT+02:00) Athens</option>
But as I''m using TZInfo::Timezone, I need to map ''Athens'' to
''Europe/Athens''
I can see that the mapping I''m looking for is

Controller url_for modifies request object?
Hi,
In my controller, I do something like this:
MyMailer.deliver_signup_notification(url_for(:subdomain =>
account.subdomain, :controller => ''hello''))
And a few lines later:
redirect_to :action => ''index''
Much to my confusion, the redirect routes me to the subdomain used in
the url_for. I''ve tried
redirect_to :action =>

Enumerable sum oddity
Hi.
In this setup "account has_many :consultations". Can anyone explain
the following behaviour to me? Rails 1.2.2. The "sum" method should
return 0 for an empty array.
>> a = Account.find(1)
=> #<Account:0x39c80a8 @attributes={...}
>> a.consultations
=> []
>> a.consultations.sum(&:foo)
