r 1.7.1, MacOS 9.2.2, mclust 2.0-2 (Update), lapackLib
...ning 9.2.2 on a PowerBook G4). I downloaded the precompiled version 2.0-2 of mclust for Classic MacOS. It appears (from the example I was using below) that I need a library called lapackLib. There does not appear to be a precompiled version at CRAN. There is a makefile for lapackLib, to use with MPW. I wondered if a compiled version might exist somewhere else. I do not have MPW (although I could download this from Apple's site). It has been a LONG time since I have used this and imagine it will be painful to get back up to speed. Thanks, S. libvorbis on Classic MacOS
...a target will probably want to skip this email. I'm revisiting this platform, trying to get music going for the game I'm working on. We're obviously using OggVorbis on the other platforms we support (osx, linux, win32). The problem is that our classic MacOS build is currently under MPW/MrC. I can compile libogg/libvorbis fine (requires enabling the intrinsic alloca support), but there seems to be a problem with the code produced. As soon as real decode work starts, res2_inverse() dies because the decodemap it attempts to use has completely bogus values (so partword[l][k] is...

Seeking compiled OS X "contrib" packages
...written by Stefano Iacus (Stefano, if you're reading this, it's terrific). The only problem is that there's no facility for importing and processing new packages. I downloaded the "how to download and build your own additional packages" file that Stefano wrote. I downloaded MPW and MacPerl, as well as all of the ancillary files, and after some trial and error got everything running. I then spent seven solid hours trying to get it to build even a single package. No dice. I kept getting errors of one kind or another (my R 1.6 came with no "share" directory, so...

[LLVMdev] Deprecating autoconf/make?
...a clumsy workaround). Just something to keep in mind if and when you do move to CMake. - CMake is not available everywhere. Bourne shells are*. As I recall, this is the reason autoconf generates shell scripts: because nearly every operating system out there comes with a shell! Even the old-timey MPW development environment for the Mac came with one! (* Even Windows comes with a shell, though it's not a Bourne shell but something else entirely with a few constructs borrowed from the Bourne shell's predecessor, the Thompson shell. But I only care about Windows inasmuch as people still us...

Nonportable use of strdup()
Hey, I ran across this while building vorbis on the Mac: In libvorbis RC2, file info.c, line 65, there's a call to strdup(). strdup() isn't portable, and it looks like the code should use the internal memory functions to create the memory for the string anyway. Actually, on further inspection, it looks like the memory for the user comments is never actually freed. I'm not subscribed

creating packages for Mac
OK, a boneheaded question ... I've made a set of packages for my students. I'm serving these packages from my web site in the form of a set of tar.gz source packages (constructed with R CMD build) and a set of .zip Windows binary packages, constructed by cross-compiling according to Brian Ripley's instructions (make pkg-foo in the src/gnuwin32 directory) and then zipping up the

[LLVMdev] Deprecating autoconf/make?
Hi All, I fear starting another centi-thread on this but I'll give it a shot. We're currently supporting two build systems which is definitely one more than we (or I) want to support. I don't know of any support in autoconf past the --host/--build/--target case that's not supported in cmake. I'll send out an assertion here that this support isn't necessary and any system

Optimisations
Looking through the archives I have seen talk of making CPU specific optimisations for Vorbis, a la MMX/3DNow!/SSE. The feeling I gather is to wait until something is working well in C before committing to any kind of specific optimisation. What if oft used and needed DSP functions were identified and standardised DSP functionality be written for Vorbis? This would seperate the basically

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list. I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without modifications. How did I try it? Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock ) Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee prep-out.log The build failed at the end: Processing files: kernel-xenU-devel-2.6.9-67.0.20.EL Checking

Yager on ZFS
Not sure if it''s been posted yet, my email is currently down... http://weblog.infoworld.com/yager/archives/2007/10/suns_zfs_is_clo.html Interesting piece. This is the second post from Yager that shows solaris in a pretty good light. I particularly like his closing comment: "If you haven''t checked out ZFS yet, do, because it will eventually become ubiquitously implemented

Hi. I have a Windows machine (XP/SP2) which i want backup to a Linux machine (named "Pippi") using rsync. I have cwRsyncServer running on the Windows machine (10.10.10.90). When i start rsync from the Linux machine after a while rsync stops - as far as i understand it because of a network timeout. > io timeout after 60 seconds -- exiting > rsync error: timeout in data
