Cannot get CentOS to install
I used google but did not come up with anything current to solve my problem.
I have not tried any other search engines yet.
There is not a search for the CentOS list so I am creating a new post.
I have tested the CentOS 5.2 and RHEL 5.3 CD's and they passed.
I had to use linux mediacheck ide=nodma to get them to pass.
The newest releases seem to most times fail with just linux mediacheck.
I have tried linux ide=nodma and
linux text ide=nodma after trying
linux and
linux text
Anaconda fails on both CentOS 5.2 and RHEL 5.3 in all cases.
The system I am trying to install on is runn...

New to Centos, and linux in general
I've installed DSL linux -- no problem
My expertise is in the HP3000 (non windows, non unix) environment.
When I boot from Centos CD#1 I get a Panic error..... I'm thinking
hardware is the issue so I try a different machine, same thing.
I've tried 'linux rescue', 'linux mem=256' still the same error, which
is mostly unreadable to me because most all the messages roll

Isolinux disk error 20; AX=4280, drive EF
I thought I'd be clever and buy a DVD for 5.2 from LinuxOnline.biz.
Well, just got around to trying it with the above results. Does the
error mean I have a 'bad' DVD disk image? Please advise. Thanks.

New to the list and one quick question
...of Ram, 18G SCSI

girls when I have it down, I have been debating on upgrading to Fedora
until I started looking at CentOS. I have download the ISO and burned
them with X-CD-Roast. Here is my question:
I tried running the mediacheck on the cd's and it would lock up right
before the media check screen appears. I have googled and tried the
ide=nodma and other options, but to still no avial. I also ran
memtest86, now here is where the kicker is. It did show there was some
errors, and these I will check out. But I then...

can not install CentOS as VM in KVM
Hi to all,
I am trying to install CentOS 5.5 as VM on a KVM server running Ubuntu
10.04. The Problem: the installer does not find the iso image. (Direct
copy from website downlod.) I can start CentOS from the iso and can even
do some disk checks. But when I go further the installer says "no CDROm
found". Pretty weird. I tried all CentOS 5.5. image available (Live CD,
net install, bin 1

CentOS5 consistent media check failures 2 - 6.
Folks,
As much as I hate to, I feel I need to post my long story and ask help.
Shortly after the release announcement, I kicked off rtorrent and
downloaded the CD and DVD images. Since my cable provider does my
"throttling", I disabled throttling and shared for several days,
"returning" several GBs at no objectionable loss I could discern.
While that was going on, I used

disable media check on custom cd [dnk]
...e option to do a media check pops up... however as per my original email -
there will be no keyboard/mouse/monitor attached during install... so I can not press
the "skip" option. Now to get the VNC install to work, I am using boot options.... I was
reading up on it, and there is a "mediacheck" boot option - however my understanding is
that if added to the boot options it forces a media check to happen. There seems to be
no option to specify "no" to the media check. Does anyone know of a way to disable the
media check?
This way it ensures that the cd boots direct into a v...

Should I download it again from any good site?
If I install CENTOS 5.3 and use yum update, will it go to CENTOS 5.4?

problem installing CentOS 5.3
...his is the i386
version of CentOS 5.3) or some parameter on the install that I haven't
tried (and I've tried about all I have found or remember). I would
appreciate any help.
What I've done so far:
At first I thought that the CentOS 1of6 disk must be bad (couldn't even
run a mediacheck) and emailed the vendor. Then it occurred to me that I
could perhaps download and burn disk 1of6 and use that to get the
install started. (Up until my attempts at F8 I had not had the
capability to burn a CD. While trying with F8 I bought a used "intel
inside" computer with a broke...
