and I cannot isolate the problem. I saw a similar posting in the archives
but there are no replies.

server from Windows 2000 desktops. We are editing files through a drive
mapped to a share on the server. The problem is when we save the file in the

smbmounts hang around after windows client disconnects
Using 2.2.1a and a 2.4 kernel patched for win4lin.
Everything is working but:
I mount all the available network shares on my linux box as root to one
network directory.
If a windows client shuts down while the linux box is still connected, the
share is not removed from my mount list or from /proc/mounts
It cannot be removed with umount. I can kill the smbmount with kill -15 but
the share is still

...r example I had files from a few days old to months old. I
wanted to copy them to the Samba server and then archive them in
different gzipped files according to their time stamp. On 2.2
ALL files go the time when they were copied. On pre 2.2 the
files would retain their times.

I did forget to mention I make installed the first version, I'll try make
clean, and if that doesnt work, i'll remove everything that was compiled. I
don't want to restore it from the tar archive, as I made some modifications
to the swat page headers.

Multiple User Data Access
I've noticed a few people posting to the list with problems accessing
Access files and or Accouting Database files with Multiple Users.
Ruben for one, not to name names :)
I've often found in the past that such problems are related to file
locking. Oportunistic locking, for one, is evil. (I haven't had
any problems with Samba, but have certainly corrupted more than a few
databases
