SMART problems with AOC-SAT2-MV8 / marvell88sx driver
I''ve been trying to get either smartctl or sg3_utils to report properly. They both have the same low-level problems which leads me to suspect either I''m doing something wrong OR there is a problem in the marvell88sx / sd / SATA etc framework. I can access drive name/serial number of all drives on the SAT2 card and the temperature is returned from the IE log page on my two drives that support temperature. (The SATA disks on the motherboard that are attached to the cmdk driver work, but SMART fails because...

ZFS 60 second pause times to read 1K
Every day we see pause times of sometime 60 seconds to read 1K of a file for local reads as well as NFS in a test setup. We have a x4500 setup as a single 4*( raid2z 9 + 2)+2 spare pool and have the files system mounted over v5 krb5 NFS and accessed directly. The pool is a 20TB pool and is using . There are three filesystems, backup, test and home. Test has about 20 million files and uses 4TB.

Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8
Bouncing a thread from the device drivers list: http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=357176 Does anybody know if OpenSolaris will support this new Supermicro card, based on the Marvell 88SE6480 chipset? It''s a true PCI Express 8 port JBOD SAS/SATA controller with pricing apparently around $125. If it works with OpenSolaris it sounds pretty much perfect. --------------

Force SATA1 on AOC-SAT2-MV8
I have a supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 and am having some issues getting drives to work. From what I can tell, my cables are to long to use with SATA2. I got some drives to work by jumpering them down to sata1, but other drives I can''t jumper without opening the case and voiding the drive warranty. Does anyone know if there is a system setting to drop it back to SATA1? I use zfs on a raid2 if

Can I trust ZFS?
Hey folks, I guess this is an odd question to be asking here, but I could do with some feedback from anybody who''s actually using ZFS in anger. I''m about to go live with ZFS in our company on a new fileserver, but I have some real concerns about whether I can really trust ZFS to keep my data alive if things go wrong. This is a big step for us, we''re a 100% windows

Optimal strategy (add or replace disks) to build a cheap and raidz?
Hello, i have an 8 port sata-controller and i don''t want to spend the money for 8 x 750 GB Sata Disks right now. I''m thinking about an optimal way of building a growing raidz-pool without loosing any data. As far as i know there are two ways to achieve this: - Adding 750 GB Disks from time to time. But this would lead to multiple groups with multiple redundancy/parity disks. I

ZFS Usage in Warehousing (lengthy intro)
Dear all, we''re currently looking forward to restructure our hardware environment for our datawarehousing product/suite/solution/whatever. We''re currently running the database side on various SF V440''s attached via dual FC to our SAN backend (EMC DMX3) with UFS. The storage system is (obviously in a SAN) shared between many systems. Performance is mediocre in terms
