ACPI "blacklist" question
...PS: This is a Gigabyte GA-6BXD board with two Celeron-466 processors on it. Well, except that it's not supported by acpi_asus(4) even though the manpage claims it is, but that's probably unrelated to the softdep_waitidle problem. Script to strip chroot passwd file
Hello BSDers, I'm running Apache in a chroot jail with suPHP. It needs an /etc/ passwd in the chroot so that suPHP can setuid to the owner of the PHP script, but there's nothing that requires the passwords to be valid. Does anyone have a script strips passwords out of master.passwd, sets all shells to nologin, etc and writes it to the chroot etc dir? I've looked around but

Hey, RELENG_7 isn't -STABLE yet, so the issue mention in the commit mail beolow will not get a Security Advisory. This only affects applications using DTLS, and I doubt there are many of those, but users should still upgrade to get this fix, just in case. i915 DRM enabled in X.org log but not in glxinfo
Hi, Just to say that this report may well seem a little sparse, but I really don't know what exactly to look for so if anybody needs extra information just shout and I will get it for you ASAP. When I check the X.org log file, it says direct rendering: enabled on my graphics device (it attaches its i810 driver to the kernel's i915 DRM device). This would appear to me to suggest that

syslog console log not logging SCSI problems
One of our FreeBSD boxes has a SCSI controller and disk, which showed problems earlier this week. There was a lot of of chatter from the SCSI driver in /var/log/messages and to the console. However, the console is unattended and we only discovered the problem subsequently because /var/log/console.log didn't show any of the chatter. console.log is otherwise working, and very helpful (e.g. it

Problems with network in jail
Hi all, Is it mandatory to add device mem to jails to enable network via the gateway? Left ezjail with FreeBSD-6.3 (and a hardware replacement of my server) and am now starting again with FreeBSD-7.1. Early this week, I upgraded from 7.0 to 7.1 (not having 'used' jails on 7.0). After creating the jail with `ezjail-admin update -i` I created a 'ports build' jail `ezjail-admin

Port scan from Apache?
Hi everyone, today I got an e-mail from a company claiming that my server is doing port scans on their firewall machine. I found that hard to believe so I started checking the box. The company rep told me that the scan was originating at port 80 with destination port 8254 on their machine. I couldn't find any hints as to why that computer was subject to the alleged port scans. floppy disk controller broken
Hello, when testing FreeBSD-7.1-BETA i discovered that the floppy disk controller doesn't work correctly. Trying to format a floppy (perhaps with bad blocks) i get: Processing fdformat: ioctl(FD_FORM): Device not configured instead of the normal E letter. I then checked the same problem is present on FreeBSD-6.3 and it has been reported by Beech Rintoul (*) in 2006! Of course the floppy disk
