mdbox: more then one altstorage
The mdbox-format with the altstorage-feature is quite nice and important. But we're having much more then >> 30 TB of maildata and doing an fsck on huge partitions takes too much (down-) time for our mailsystem. It would be much easier, if Dovecot would be able to use at least THREE storage-paths for his m-Files (and not just TWO like now). Having an altstorage1 and altstorage2, we would be able to move away all mails fr...

restoring mails and directories
Good day! is there an easy way to restore e.g. deleted mails and/or mail directories? let me specify: I'm running dovecot 1.2.9 on a current ubuntu lts. It is set to Maildir and I backup the folder with the users maildata nightly via rsync. now, when someone deletes a mail that they still need, and I copy it back from the backup, it will not be visible to mail clients. When I change the mailfile by a letter or so, it shows. that's easy enough, if not exactly awesome ;-) But, if said person deletes a whole fol...

Question about dovecot replication
...rg/Replication" it works great. According to the wiki it is recomended to run "doveadm purge" on both systems continously, because "doveadm purge" will not be replicated by the replication service. No problem so far. But I have one doubt: is it also reccmended (for keeping maildata in sync) to run "doveadm replicator replicate '*'" continously on both nodes? Or is it enough on only one node? Or should I run "doveadm sync -A tcp:anotherhost.example.com" in regular intervalls? Perhaps once a day on both nodes? Thanks Urban Loesch

Non-standard socket locations w/ Dovecot + AWS Linux
...wn below: service auth { unix_listener auth-userdb { path = /var/run/dovecot/auth-master mode = 0600 user = vmail } } ============ The above has been working great for several years but the time eventually came where I needed to upgrade. This of course meant I had to move lots of maildata between the servers. Unfortunately, the ?auth-userdb" config mentioned above prevented ?dsync" from working properly. This is the error I received when trying ?dsync?: Error: userdb lookup: connect(/usr/local/var/run/dovecot/auth-userdb) failed: No such file or directory This error l...

checkpassword authentication
...does not seem to matter for the authentication. Without enabling a userdb entry, dovecot claims not to be able to find out the uid, gid and home of the user, although checkpassword replies these values. Setting static values with "userdb = static uid=$fixed_mail_uid gid=$fixed_mail_gid home=/maildata/%d/%n" results in being every login successful, no matter if the checkpassword authentication is ok, or not. Problem with "convert" Plugin

When looking into this Folder: /var/maildata/USER/Maildir/cur/ I can see that newly delivered mails look like this: 1366122898.14776_0.SERVERNAME:2, And the old - converted ones like this: 1366119758.P14442Q12M682874.SERVERNAME:2, Can someone point me in the right direction why the converted Mails are missing? force to recalculate quotadict
Hello, i use working quotasystem with sql-quotadict. The values stored in db are used to realize also a quotasystem in postfix to reject mails if they are bigger then remaining quota. if dataset in quotadict is missing for some reasons, postfix can't calculate quota and mail gets delivered even if user is already over quota. I am looking for a way to force dovecot/lda to recalculate users

Architecture for large Dovecot cluster
Hi All, I am trying to determine whether a mail server cluster based on Dovecot will be capable of supporting 500,000+ mailboxes with about 50,000 IMAP and 5000 active POP3 connections. I have looked at the Dovecot clustering suggestions here: http://blog.dovecot.org/2012/02/dovecot-clustering-with-dsync-based.html and some other Dovecot mailing list threads but I am not sure how many
