x-table package
...I guess that many users would be very happy of having this further possibility when using xtable! Would it be possible to implement this change in a future version of xtable? Thank you for your kind attention (and for having developed a very useful package indeed!). Sincerely Claudio Lupi

Bug in R0.90.0? (PR#374)
...ram a<-data.frame(1:10) b<-matrix(NA,3,1) z<-rbind(b,as.matrix(a)) While it works well i R0.64.1, it appears to be deleterious for R0.90.0. When I run it, R crashes. I'm using Windows NT on a Pentium II system. Please let me know if you need some other details. [ANN/ADV] Ruby for Rails now published in paper!
Hi -- I''m on the road, so I haven''t laid eyes on it yet -- but word on the virtual street is that "Ruby for Rails: Ruby techniques for Rails developers" is now out in paper. It will probably take a little longer to trickle to your neighborhood Barnes and Noble... but you can order it now from the publisher. See http://www.manning.com/black. And trickle it will, too.

Dreamhosters beware: 1.1 migration ruckus
This will probably demolish your Typo-based weblog and cause some other glitches. Read the comments and some workarounds here: http://blog.dreamhost.com/2006/03/28/new-rails/ -- ---------------------------------------------------- http://sobrerailes.com

Dreamhost subscription?
I''m thinking about signing up with DreamHost for the base Level 1 $9.95 plan. Does anyone think that''s a bad idea? I''d like to know others thoughts, and who they recommend for RoR hosting? Thanks! -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Global Data, where can it go?
I''m developing a stateful Ruby application that needs to keep data in one location where all people accessing the site can modify its contents. This data will be read-from/written to often, so I would prefer for rails to keep it in memory, rather than a database. My frist try involved global variables. After discovering that they were being "re-initialized" with each new

Problem with scaffolding and table name
Hello, i''m new in ruby rails framework. I have the following problem. I try to create a scaffold for a certain model of my db, but since ruby rails doesn''t assume the table name corectly (its incidents_reported ) i get errors .... Besides renaming the table :) is there a way to ''tell'' ruby rails the name of the table? I haven''t been able to find any

A Stylesheet for a database app
Hi to all, I''m a new subscriber of this list and a new user of RoR. I''m looking for a stylesheet to make a simple database app nicer, a css to start working with. I have to do some simple apps and I want them to be the more uniform on the presentation side. I know I can do it for myself, but a nice stylesheet is not so easy to perform for a non-grafic geek like me, and so

Declaring ActiveRecord observers
Hello I''m using the ''act_as_authenticated'' plugin to implement a small and simple authentication system in my app. Everything is working just fine and the world is a better place to live in. The plugin creates a ActiveRecord observer in order to send the newly registered user a confirmation e-mail. Per the API docs [1], one should declare the observer in the

Graceful degrading AJAX show/hide
Ok i''ve done a bit of hunting around and I can''t find much documentation on how ensure an ajax call through an rjs file degrades with javascript off. Essentially, if javascript is off, I want to refresh the page and pass a variable from the controller to the page the user is on. Not use the rjs file. At the moment i have this: <%= link_to_remote("Advanced Search",

Acts_as_authenticated plugin?
Hi, I''ve just downloaded the acts_as_authenticated plugin but I can''t find much in the way of documentation. First is there anywhere that someone could point me to to get a handle on this. Second.. Does the plugin still require the use of generators to use? Thanx in advance Dan -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

What is the CADF test criterion="BIC" report?
Hello: I am a rookie in using R. When I used the unit root test in "CADFtest", I got the different t-test statistics between using criterion="BIC" and no using criterion. But when I checked the result with eviews, I find out that no using criterion is correct. Why after using criterion="BIC", I got the different result? Paul > data(Canada) > ADFt

Newbie question - Automatically update _form.rhtml?
Hi all, I''ve got an odd issue. I''m new to Ruby/Rails and have a bit of a silly question. I''m following along with the nice little tutorial here, to get an idea of the system: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2005/01/20/rails.html?page=3 However, I''m running into an issue where the author adds a new field in his database, refreshes the browser and shows

Can''t get Fast CGI working.
Well, after many hours of tinkering and internet browsing I just can''t get Fast CGI to work with Rails and Apache 1.3 on FreeBSD 5.4 Normal CGI works fine, but as soon as I enable FastCGI in .htaccess I get the message: Application error Rails application failed to start properly Here''s what I''ve done so far: - I''ve installed all the necessary software for

500 Server Error - stumping me at the moment
I''m trying to deploy an app on Dreamhost and I''m getting the infamous 500 Server Error. Nothing in the rails logs because it looks to be happening before it gets there. In the apache error logs we have: [Wed Apr 12 12:51:51 2006] [error] [client 194.80.32.9] FastCGI: comm with (dynamic) server "/home/rlivsey/thatsprogress.com/current/public/dispatch.fcgi"

How should I pick a random entry from the database?
Hi guys. Total newbie here. I''ve been doing web stuff since 1996 but only began the foray into scripting last year. I haven''t got my skull completely 360 degrees around OOP yet. It''s just me here (in Japan) and there are no Ruby groups in my area (never mind any in English). I''ve got a database table - real simple: question, answer, and id fields - and I

deploying R_o_R to local servers
Hi! I''m pretty amazed by the features of RoR so far. But, as I come from the desktop application development, my clients expect to run the magic on their domain rather on a foreign one. Also I feel uncomfortable giving away my RoR code to some hosting company, because I''m planning to do a large application. As I understand, RoR is designed to run on central web-servers and not

aligning Ferret''s IndexSearcher.search API with Lucene''s
Recently I''ve been revisiting some of my search code. With a greater understanding of how Java Lucene implements its search methods, I realized that one level of abstraction is not present in the Ferret classes/methods. Here are the relevant method signatures: Ferret''s search methods: in Ferret::Index::Index: search(query, options = {}) -> returns a TopDocs
