OT Strange IP address on home network
Sounds like you have a host with a NIC that's configured for DHCP but
either can't communicate with the DHCP server, or there are no free IPs for
the DHCP server to give it.

(169.254.192.123) at 30:10:b3:2e:cb:ff
I see that 30:10:b3 is assigned to Lite-On (or Liteon)
which is a Taiwan company, who sell network cards among other things.
And I find when I google to "liteon wifi network"
that there are many queries (and complaints) about mysterious links
involving liteon devices.
So I guess the strange IP address probably comes from some Lite-On device...

FreeBSD doesn't find my CD-RW and sometimes my DVD
...ive it a try too) and I've tried to BURN it with "burncd" . Now, I've
noticed that in the DEV directory there are the devices "acd0a" and
"acd0c" , I've thought that acd0a was DVD and acd0c was CD-RW... but I
was wrong...
ACD0 is only the DVD , CD-RW (a Liteon 52x 24x 52x) isn't found at all!!
Literally from DMESG:
ata0-slave: ATA identify retries excedeed
and sometimes it doesn't find my DVD too , with the message :
ata1-slave: ATA identify retries excedeed
so, I'm without CD and DVD :cry:
What I can do??
My system is:
Athlon XP 2400...

DVD rom questions
I'm running CentOS 3 and have just installed a Liteon lightscribe DVD/CD
unit. I firstly realized I didn't know exactly how to mount it, as /dev/dvd
didn't exist, I didn't want to generate anything if it already existed, and
I didn't want to mess up my cdrom unit that works just fine.

Please recommend a DVD writer for CentOS 4.1
Hi.
I need to install DVD writers in a CentOS box as part of a backup setup.
I want as little fuss as possible both with HW recognition and
functionality. Can any of you recommend a vendor/product ?
Performance of the drive is not an issue. I get confused looking at all
the "+/-RW +R double layer yada yada" when skimming the hardware lists..
Any help is much appreciated.

isolinux problems on Dell GX260

get a bit further - I get an error:
isolinux: Disk error 01: AX=4200, drive 82
The same boot cd works just fine on my laptop.
Some background info (just in case): GX260's have Intel Corp. 82845G/GL
[Brookdale-G] Chipset (from lspci). Tested on 2 of them, one with a DVD
drive (Liteon LTD163) and one with a CD-RW/DVD combo drive (Samsung
???). One has an older bios revision and one newest, no difference,
exactly the same error.
Any suggestions? I also tried to figure out what could 4200h mean as a
return value after 42h call but I can't seem to find much.

Burning DVD with upgrade of cdrtools for cdrecord
I am having problems burning DVD's from commandline. I was wondering if
anyone else has had any luck using cdrecord-2.01 and cdrtools that is
supposed to add DVD support? Thanks!

Rapid transfers cause kernel panic

Since I didn't build the dual Celeron system, I will give the specs on my
AMD K6-2 system.
AMD K6-2 350 (not overclocked), 128Mb RAM
the NIC is a LiteON 10/100Mbps board (Linksys) This board sits on a
100Mbps switched ethernet and operates in full duplex. (it's a quick
network)
Although I can't imagine the disks being a problem, here's the disk
