Possible to use libgfapi with libvirt in CentOS 6.5?
Good Evening,
I have read that libgfapi has been backported to qemu-kvm in RHEL 6.5 (and
by virtue CentOS and SL). However I am unable to figure out how to actually
make it work as described. Virt-manager still only seems to support
glusterfs volumes via fuse.
I can use qemu-img to create a disk image on gluster://<server>/<Vol...

libvirt and libgfapi in RHEL 6.5 beta
Dear All,
Very pleased to see that the Redhat 6.5 beta promises "Native Support
for GlusterFS in QEMU allows native access to GlusterFS volumes using
the libgfapi library"
Can I ask if virt-manager & libvirt can control libgfapi mounts? :)
or do I need to use ovirt? :(
many thanks

Qemu-Libgfapi: periodical shutdown of virtual machines.
Hello,
Would you so kind to help me with my problem concerning libgfapi.
My host operating system is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, version of glusterfs is
3.6.2, and version of qemu is 2.0.0.
In our environment guest virtual machines periodically go to power-off
state 'Powered Off'(Shutdown) with ERROR in /var/log/syslog like:

does libgfapi and fuse mount performance matches?
Dear gluster experts,
I recently want to use jna to bind libgfapi to java. And I have one
question. Does libgfapi and fuse mount performance match? The
performance translators works for libgfapi too?
Thank you very much.

libgfapi disk locking in virtlockd not working
Hello.
I'm playing with libgfapi network disks, over IB and all is working
fine, but not disk locking (and true rdma transport).
I use virtlockd, and with fuse mount, locking works as expected.
But when i converted disk definitions to libgfapi, locks are not created
(but qemu starts and works fine). I used direct and indirect l...

libgfapi with encryption?
Hi,
I created an encrypted volume which appears to be working fine with
FUSE but the volume is supposed to store VM images (master key in
place). I noticed some references in libgfapi source code to
encryption so I decided to try it out. While attempting to create an
image:
# qemu-img create -f qcow2 gluster://gluster01/virt0/testing.img 30G
Formatting 'gluster://dalpinfglt01/virt0/testing.img', fmt=qcow2

High Guest CPU Utilization when using libgfapi
Hi,
I am currently testing running Openstack instance on Cinder volume with
libgfapi. This instance is the Windows instance and i found that when
running random 4k write workload, the CPU utilization is very high, 90%
CPU utilization with about 86% in privileged time. I also tested the
workload with volume from NFS and the CPU utilization is only around 5%.
For gluster fuse, the C...

libgfapi failover problem on replica bricks
Hello,
I'm having an issue with rebooting bricks holding images for live KVM
machines (using libgfapi).
I have a replicated+distributed setup of 4 bricks (2x2). The cluster
contains images for a couple of kvm virtual machines.
My problem is that when I reboot a brick containing a an image of a
VM, the VM will start throwing disk errors and eventually die.
The gluster volume is made like this:

Adding Gluster support for Primary Storage in CloudStack
...request for review/testing on
the CloudStack developers mailinglist too [2], in case there are general
CloudStack questions, it might be better to follow-up there.
Future work will include adding support for attaching CloudStack Volumes
(disk images, files on a Gluster Volume) through the QEMU-libgfapi
integration. At the moment, QEMU is started with the path mounted over
the fuse-client. Untested patches for that are in the work-in-progress
repository on the forge. Anyone who feels like testing and/or helping
out is more than welcome.
Thanks,
Niels

Latest glusterfs 3.8.5 server not compatible with livbirt libgfapi access
Hi,
After updating glusterfs server to 3.8.5 (from Centos-gluster-3.8.repo) the
KVM virtual machines (qemu-kvm-ev-2.3.0-31) that access storage using
libgfapi are no longer able to start. The libvirt log file shows:

fuse vs libgfapi LIO performances comparison: how to make tests?
Dear support, I need to export gluster volume with LIO for a
virtualization system. In this moment I have a very basic test

interconnected. Gluster configuration is replica 2. OS is Fedora 27
For my tests I used dd and I found strange results. Apparently the

GlusterFS as virtual machine storage
Mh, not so sure really, using libgfapi and it's been working perfectly
fine. And trust me, there had been A LOT of various crashes, reboots and
kill of nodes.
Maybe it's a version thing ? A new bug in the new gluster releases that
doesn't affect our 3.7.15.

GlusterFS as virtual machine storage
I'm on 3.10.5. Its rock solid (at least with the fuse mount <Grin>)
We are also typically on a somewhat slower GlusterFS LAN network (bonded
2x1G, jumbo frames) so that may be a factor.
I'll try to setup a trusted pool to test libgfapi soon.
I'm curious as to how much faster it is, but the fuse mount is fast
enough, dirt simple to use, and just works on all VM ops such as
migration, snaps etc, so there hasn't been a compelling need to squeeze
out a few more I/Os.

Failover problems with gluster 3.8.8-1 (latest Debian stable)
I'm using gluster for a virt-store with 3x2 distributed/replicated
servers for 16 qemu/kvm/libvirt virtual machines using image files
stored in gluster and accessed via libgfapi. Eight of these disk images
are standalone, while the other eight are qcow2 images which all share a
single backing file.
For the most part, this is all working very well. However, one of the
gluster servers (azathoth) causes three of the standalone VMs and all 8
of the shared-backing-image VMs...

Request For Opinions: what to do about the synthetic statfvs "tweak"?
...red io size. (And regarding f_frsize --
in Linux it's a historical workaround for
certain bugs in userspace[2] that f_bsize
and f_frsize are being kept equal.)
However, this has the side effect of
getting slightly different values for total
and used/free space of a volume when
accessed through libgfapi and when through
fuse -- because these values are multiples
of f_frsize, and libgfapi uses the native f_frsize
of the backend (typically 4k), while fuse provides
its synthetic f_frsize (typically 128k). So the
libfgapi provided sizes are more granular.
OTOH, I couldn't find any program in
