dtrace for LDom/xpv hypervisor!
Hello,
I''m a grad student working at University of Michigan in computer architecture. I''m writing to open up the idea that instrumentation of the xvm would be extremely useful tool for the research community. Those of us interested in virtualization are very interested in monitoring the behavior of these systems and with low engineering effort! I was hoping to get feedback on

automatic forced zpool import with unmatched hostid
Hi,
since hostid is stored in the label, "zpool import" failed if the hostid dind''t match. Under certain circonstances (ldom failover) it means you have to manually force the zpool import while booting. With more than 80 LDOMs on a single host it will be great if we could configure the machine back to the old behavior where it didn''t failed, maybe with a /etc/sytem option.
any idea will be greatly appreciate.

Update LDOM bootdisk (ZFS) from control domain
Hello,
I am trying to update files on LDOM boot disk from Control Domain, but I
can''t get it working fully.
I have a setup that allows to quickly deploy LDOM guest domains. The Golden
OS Image of guest domain boot disk is on a ZFS Volume. This ZFS Volume has
been Snapshot and Cloned for the quick deployment of guest domains.
Filesystem in both the control domain and guest domain is

Can a guest LDOM discover the identity of the host system?
That is...is there a mechanism provided to do this?
As an afterthought, this also applies to non-global zones, although
one can stick something in the oem-banner eeprom variable that is identically visible on all the zones, which is not the case on LDOMs.
However, that''s not a supported mechanism. Having something that
was would be better. Ideal if the same mechanism (on what might
or might not be a zone, LDOM, or virtualized instance running under
for example Xvm (xen) or VirtualBox) could be used for a guest of any
of those sorts to de...

ZFS/NFS/LDOM performance issues
[Cross-posting to ldoms-discuss]
We are occasionally seeing massive time-to-completions for I/O requests on ZFS file systems on a Sun T5220 attached to a Sun StorageTek 2540 and a Sun J4200, and using a SSD drive as a ZIL device. Primary access to this system is via NFS, and with NFS COMMITs blocking until the request h...

Open Solaris on Sparc Virtual Server Options
Hello Everyone,
My question is simply what are my best options for successfully installing virtual tools on an Open Solaris OS running on Sparc Architecture. My hardware is a
Sun Blade 2500. From what I have read Virtualbox and Xen do not work on Sparc
technologies. What options do I have?
Thank you in advance for any advice,
Dan

OpenSolaris Sparc Xen boot problem
I am running OpenSolaris build 134 on a T1000 (Sparc).
It has been an uphill battle getting this far. Many of the commands I
find in the various documentation won''t work for me.

Best practices for zpools on zfs
Suppose I have a storage server that runs ZFS, presumably providing
file (NFS) and/or block (iSCSI, FC) services to other machines that
are running Solaris. Some of the use will be for LDoms and zones[1],
which would create zpools on top of zfs (fs or zvol). I have concerns
about variable block sizes and the implications for performance.

Suppose that on the storage server, an NFS shared dataset is created

zfs questions wrt unused blocks
Gents,
We want to understand the mechanism of zfs a bit better.
Q: what is the design/algorithm of zfs in terms of reclaiming unused
blocks?
Q: what criteria is there for zfs to start reclaiming blocks
Issue at hand is an LDOM or zone running in a virtual
(thin-provisioned) disk on a NFS server and a zpool inside that vdisk.
This vdisk tends to grow in size even if the user writes and deletes
