Problem deleting folders with Thunderbird?
...m userdb: driver: passwd Is there something to be configured to allow mail box deletion? I know there was a similar discussion this week about users deleting their mailboxes accidentally. Are folders within folders allowed by dovecot? Thanks very much, -- Knute Johnson linux at www.knutejohnson.com

Migrating mail between servers
I've currently got dovecot running on a Fedora server and I want to move all my mail to my new server running ubuntu. Both use mbox and I have IMAP working in both. Can I just copy the ~user/mail directory and /var/mail/user file and replace them in the new server? Thanks, -- Knute Johnson "The urge to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule."

Converting from 1.12 to 2.0 questions about mail location?
I'm building a new server and using a newer version of ubuntu server that uses Dovecot 2.0. I thought I would like to use Maildir instead of the mbox that was used in the previous server. What do I have to do to convert my mbox mail to Maildir? Or should I just use mbox and copy it over :-)? Thanks, -- Knute Johnson

Syncing two mail servers?
I currently have a mail server using Dovecot and sendmail. I was thinking I would like to have a backup of my mail and an additional server in case of hardware failure. Is it possible to run two identical or nearly identical server setups and sync the mail files between them? If it is possible, in general terms how would one go about this? Thanks, -- Knute Johnson

Help restoring imap mail
My mailserver blew up today with a power hit. I've created a new server and have dovecot running and I want to restore my mail. I have a copy of the file that was in /var/mail. I set the new dovecot config up the same as the old one and copied the mail file over. I can see the INBOX mail but none of the rest of it. I'm running 1.2.15 under Ubuntu server 11.04. I'm using

How to disable pop3 in version 2?
I'm about to bring up a new mail server running Ubuntu 11.10 with Dovecot 2. I've been using 1.2 all along and there are a bunch more config files in 2. In 1.2 I just edited the protocols statement but I can't find one in version 2. Is there a way to disable pop3 or do I just firewall the ports? And a related question, I've been using imaps on port 993 but I hear

Strange messages?
The following messages show up in the output of a script that does some backup. This too is new with the upgrade to Ubuntu server 12.04.1 and dovecot 2.0.19. Upgraded my dovecot?
I upgraded my server from Ubuntu 12.04LTS to 14.04LTS and it upgrade my dovecot too. Probably should have thought about that a little more before I pushed the button but oh well. So it didn't work when it came back up and I had to add a "inbox=yes" line to my namespace in 15-mailboxes.conf and that fixed it. So is there anything else I should update in my config files for this

Occasional fchown errors?
Hi: I get the occasional error below. Is there something I don't have configured correctly? Or should I just ignore this? It is not always this file, sometimes it is the cache.lock file or the log.newlock file. I have a mail client running on my computer and my phone at the same time, could that have something to do with it? Nov 10 08:32:59 rabbitbrush dovecot: IMAP(bob):

New log entries with 2.0.19?
I just upgraded my Ubuntu server from 11.10 to 12.04.1 and that upgraded Dovecot to 2.0.19. For some reason I'm getting a lot more (5 times) disconnect in IDLE and inactivity time outs. I'm using only IMAP with two users. Both users access the server from multiple devices, phone, tablet and desktop computer. I had previously set the max_userip_connections to 20 and rarely got the
