Error mesage
Hi, I work for SUN Microsystems and I have a customer running samba 2.05a under solaris 2.6. SMB status gives: route did not create the semaphore failed to initialise share modes Cant initialise shared memory - exiting Daemon is still running Did a test parm - this seems to indicate configuration is OK. Same config running on another similarly setup machine , which works fine. Any

locking Problem 2.0.0 on SGI
Hi, after having upgraded from 2.0.0beta2 to 2.0.0 there are happening strange things: 1) After startup of smbd I find the following message in log.smb smbd version 2.0.0 started. Copyright Andrew Tridgell 1992-1998 [1999/01/15 17:38:09, 1] smbd/files.c:file_init(219) file_init: Information only: requested 10000 open files, 2490 are available. 2) doing a smbclient -L <hostname>

MAX_OPEN_FILES - message & changeing
...his - p72. Then recompile. Beware this will if you let it change the default shared memory size - SHMEM_SIZE - another define which uses MAX_OPEN_FILES in local.h. This may cause problems since certainly under Solaris shared memory does not vanish on the last detach - you have to reboot OR use ipcrm(1) to remove IF you allow the size to change. I changed the define to keep SHMEM_SZIE the same - ie made the following diff: *** local.h.dist Mon Mar 23 18:31:38 1998 --- local.h Fri Jan 29 11:39:42 1999 *************** *** 34,44 **** MAX_CONNECTIONS services, but any number of...

Shared Memory Problems
I just thought I'd throw this out there because it doesn't seem normal to me. We have 2.0.5a on AIX 4.3.2. We initially tried to increase the shared mem size to 4MB. This would not happen until we rebooted AIX. Then smbstatus reported a 4MB shared mem size. Now we are trying to decrease it because we will only need about 2MB and it won't reduce. I suspect it will when we reboot

Shared Memory and Semaphore Errors
...box: [1999/10/07 11:49:44, 0] locking/shmem_sysv.c:sysv_shm_open(597) ERROR: root did not create the semaphore [1999/10/07 11:49:44, 0] locking/locking.c:locking_init(174) ERROR: Failed to initialise share modes The answer I received was to use ipcs to find a corrupted memory segment then use ipcrm to remove the segment or semaphore. This hasn't solved my problem. Every time the unix box gets rebooted, I get the same shared memory segments reappearing. I saw "The Man" respond to one of these errors, suggesting that the problem was fixed at 2.06. I am missing some fundament...

This weekend, we upgraded our server to Linux-Mandrake 7.1, which uses a (slightly customized by Mandrake) 2.2.15 kernel. Since then, users are unable to log in, and log.smb shows locking/shmem_sysv_shm_open(667). Can't create or use use IPC area. Error was File exists locking/locking.c:locking_init(174). SAMBA eats up all memory...
Hello, I am running SAMBA 2.0.7.0 on AIX 4.3.3.0 I have a 1 Tera Byte filesystem on AIX made available to NT and MAC. There is heavy IO activity on this filesystem and all of a sudden the NT's and MAC's can't read or write any file on this shared filesystem. Also AIX is running out of memory whenever this happens and files cannot be copied onto the said filesystem even at unix

How to install programs in wine?
I am a rank newbie to Linux and wine. I am running Ubuntu Dapper on an AMD 1800 mhz machine, wine 0.9.15 Everything I have read says use the installer to load windows programs. Where is the installer? Thanks, -- Ron Thompson On the Beautiful Florida Space Coast, right beside the Kennedy Space Center, USA http://www.plansandprojects.com My hobby pages are here:
