unique
...hat each shop name is only listed ones and not two or three times because of an evaluation at different dates. What happens is that unique eliminates also those shops names which appear only ones in bigshopdata but twice or more often in shopdata. But that is not what I want to. I'm only interessted in multiple appearance in bigshopdata not in an possible multible appearance in the original data.farme. How can I use unique to get what I want? Or is there an alternative function? I hope I explained the problem good enought. Best regards Claudia

LDA vs. LMTP
...t, there are two ways to transfer the mail from Postfix to Dovecot. 1.) by using LDA with mailbox_command = /usr/libexec/dovecot/dovecot-lda -f "$SENDER" -a "$RECIPIENT" 2.) by using LMTP with mailbox_transport = lmtp:unix:private/dovecot-lmtp (currently using number 1) I'm interessted in the differences and the advantages/disadvantages of each of those solutions. According to http://wiki2.dovecot.org/LDA the recommended way is to use LMTP, since it's supposed to have a better performance. On the other hand, http://wiki2.dovecot.org/LMTP says, that LMTP is a backgound proces...

Expunge (?)
Hi, I don't know if this is the correct term. Let me elaborate. From time to time, I want to expunge (?) the mail folder so that users' Trash'd mails don't occupy space. So, here are my questions: 1. Is this the correct term? 2. Is it a Good Idea? to do it? Thanks, -- mto

[Bridge] Measuring Bridge Performance (+ebtables/iptables)
...n setup running, which is working at much higher packet/throughput rates than I was able to reproduce in the lab. This is really bugging me. I know about the different packet sizes involved when looking at real life traffic. As I know that performance always depends on the setup, I'd really be interessted in your experience in creating a test setup that is getting as close to real traffic as possible. Best, Michael

optimal factorial designs
Hi All, recently I used Design Expert for some Design Of Experiment work. I was happy with the interface to select which effects I want to see in my experiment, and which not. For example: I can select of course my main effects, but also if I want to see interaction A:B, B:C, A:B:C,but not A:C. This was very interessting as you can end up with fewer runs, especially in cases of 10 factors with

the EXTRAVERSION problem in dh-kpatches...
...there is a bug report for exactly this that is 3 years and 124 days old! http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=165505 I can also add my report to this bug and mention that we need a fixed version for our xen packages, but as it looks for me (at the moment) the maintainer is not really interessted in getting this "fixed". --Ralph P.s.: If we don't remove the EXTRAVERSION from our xen patch, then the exactly error message is: ... dh_install -p xen-docs -X examples --sourcedir=/home/ralphp/build/xen-3.0.1/debian/install dh_installdocs dh_installchangelogs dh_installkpatches...

Channel coupling
Unfortunately nobody has answered to my question about the channel mapping. :-( Are there any new ideas how save the channel mapping in multichannel vorbis streams? In addition it might be interessting thinking about using channel coupling for storing the same content in different langauges (because many things like background music are supposed to be the same). But there would be the same

Debugging system load - How to start?
...he last days I noticed an unnormal increase of the system load up to 10 and lots of users told me that there mailclient connections (sending and receiving) are dropped from time to time. I was planing to exchange the server respectively distribut the services in the near future anyway, but I'm interessted in what causes the load now or where the system "hangs" :-) There is a lot of work to do and the setup is not very well designed, but at the time I started the mailsystem at our place, I had only this one server and a lot of user requests ... The System: Intel Pentium D 3.20GHz, 8 GB...

APC Back-UPS CS 500 power cycle
Hello, we have a problem using APC Back-UPS CS 500 (connected via USB, usbhid-ups-apc) and UPS-NUT. We've tried different Versions of UPS-NUT (2.2.1 and 2.2.2), including the latest from SVN (28th November 2008). We've also tried apcupsd, which works fine for our requirements, but we don't want use it. What we need is simple: The UPS should turn off after power loss and shutdown

rc15 dumped core
We have been running rc15 since Sunday experiencing no trouble, but today one user crashed. rc15 on Solaris-5.9, the server had app 6GB free memory at the time of the crash, app 70% idle running with an avg.load at 4 of 8 processors available. The USER's INBOX was quite smooth, app 13MB containing 320 messages. The core dump was accompanied with these log-entries: Nov 23 2006 12:27:00

IAX Java Softphone?
Does anyone know of an IAX softphone in Java, whether applet or application? Even the most minimum featureset, just voice and dialing, or even embedded in some other app/let. Preferably GPL. Thanks. -- (C) Matthew Rubenstein

logcheck-database -- volatile?
...ile.debian.net has been created. A first package, whois, has already been accepted into the debian-volatile section for woody. We expect that debian-volatile will reach a full working status once sarge is released, but of course, we aim that it is useable any time (and we believe it is). We are interessted about feedback, especially from normal users of Debian. The canonical contact address for any issues with debian-volatile is debian-volatile at volatile.debian.net; however, looking at the web page at http://volatile.debian.net before might reduce our work load. Our next steps are to create a bro...
