trouble with custom type on 0.24.8
...nts are giving me the following error: "Could not retrieve catalog: Could not find resource type zypper_repo at /etc/puppet/manifests/nodes/mgt.pp:33 on node <host.fqdn>" The custom type is present in the /var/lib/puppet/lib/puppet/type directory on both clients and server (via pluginsync), but it''s not working. My node.pp, init.pp for the module, and custom type are listed below. Any ideas? node ''host.fqdn'' inherits basenode { include zypper zypper_repo { "test": } } init.pp for zypper module: class zypper { } zypper_repo.rb: mod...

file resource, multiple owner values
...then if the owner of /tmp/bla is either root or jared, nothing happens, and if not, the owner is changed to root. More generically speaking, my reading of the code suggests that if the owner of the file is in the given list (the ''should'' value), the owner property of the file is insync, and if owner is not insync, the file is chowned to should[0]. And likewise with the group property. But I couldn''t find anything in the documentation that says I can provide multiple values for these properties, and what I should expect to happen. This behavior when I provide multiple va...

Time resolution on stored files?
I am using a Samba server not only for file sharing but also as a location for backup copies of Windows based files. I have tried using xcopy and a product call InSync from Dillobits software and I think both are running into the same problem. The problem is that these tools do not think that the time stamp on the file stored on Samba is the same as the time stamp stored on Window (in my case Windows 2000). I have been working with the product support people...

defaultto in hash property not obeyed
Hi. I seem to have the following problem. This is a code from my custom type: newproperty(:kernel_options) do desc "Kernel options for installation boot." defaultto {} def insync?(is) # @should is an Array. see lib/puppet/type.rb insync? should = @should.first # if members of hashes are not the same, something # was added or removed from manifest, so return false return false unless is.class == Hash and should.class == Hash and is.keys.s...

Raw EXT3 block format
Hello Guys, I am looking to extend/create a file system that span networks/device of any kind, shape and manner :) Check out http://www.insync.za.net/openufs/ (also on http://openufs.sourceforge.net - but Iam not here to adv. the site !) I would like to know, where can I find what EXT3 will write to the disk, how it works etc. Surely EXT3 will write something like this : Block 0 - (1024 bytes) {DATA} Block 1 - (1024 bytes) {FAT type bl...

Rsync with NAS & Storagecraft ShadowProtect Desktop
...ention police in place for the backups and the business is open 7 days. The backups are stored on a QNAP NAS (239ProII from memory - a good wee unit) In order to staisfy the requirement to have offsite backup we have two disks that we attach to the NAS and rotate weekly. These disks are kept "insync" with the NAS content via a flavour of rsync in the NAS GUI. For M-F business this it is no problem if the Fullbackup is done on a Friday night (takes about 40 min) and then the NAS starts a rsync to the USB attached offsite disks. Now this can often run for about 36-40 hours, which is no pro...

Keep Alive packets
Hello Everyone, Would it be posiable to add a "keep alive" option to rsync. The problem I am having is that the connection is dropped while rsync is scanning the local directory. If "null" packets are send to the server every 60 seconds or so, the connection will stay up and the sync will work. Or maybe there is an option that does this already ? Thanks, Pieter De Wit

Changing NFS mount options to read only (ro) does not affect puppet change
I have some NFS directories that get changed to a read-only status after a period of time. I noticed in puppet, if I change these values and restart puppet and puppetmaster respectively, it does not pick up the change in the mount {} directive. Is there a way around this, or a better way to affect the change. Thanks. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google

Secret URLs and file downloads
I''m looking to do something similar to the "secret URLs" in Rails Recipes, however, with file downloads. I want to avoid providing direct URLs to people if possible. I have files on disk in public/, so it would be good if each user got a "unique" URL to each file that they are permitted to see (dealt with by a user_id/file_id table). Then they are only allowed

Proposal: ZFS Hot Spare support
As mentioned last night, we''ve been reviewing a proposal for hot spare support in ZFS. Below you can find a current draft of the proposed interfaces. This has not yet been submitted for ARC review, but comments are welcome. Note that this does not include any enhanced FMA diagnosis to determine when a device is "faulted". This will come in a follow-on project, of which some
