Solution to: Inoculan incompatible with Samba?

Trouble with MS Excel files on samba share
We are testing a basic setup using samba 2.0.6 from the SuSE Linux
distribution (Ver. 6.3). Copy files and working (loading & saving files)
with MS Word and other applications on the fileshare works well. With
Excel 97 SP2 running on NT4.0 SP5 we have the following problem :
Open the file first time -> o.k.
Save the file first time -> o.k.
Open the same file again -> o.k.

Virus checker gets error "Network Name was deleted" ?
...Samba logs, although debug
level is only 0. I have been unable to convince the people
concerned to turn this up.
The network is running a non-standard subnet mask - 20/12 bit split.
Server is a Sun Sparcstation running Solaris 2.5.1 - with all
recommended patches.
The virus checking software is Inoculan v4.00 - though I'm not
convinced this is the problem.
Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks...

[Very Strange] Windows Networking suddendly stopped working
...ry succeeded, but the second try was again the same result.
And we found out that this problem is bound to the computer not the user, as the
user can logon on another computer
normal without any problems. All computers were running Windows XP Prof SP1a.
Altough there is a virus Scanner (CA Etrust Inoculan) with up-to-date signatures
on the computer, we scanned the computers in question
by 2 additional Anti Virus Packages, 1. H+BEDV AntiVir and 2. Kasperksy, all
scanners marking the computer clean.
Running "nbtstat -RR" didn't also not solve the problem.
