that runs Fedora Core 3 just fine -- with _full_ GNOME.
OpenOffice 1.x, Acrobat and RealPlayer have their own, statically-linked
widget-sets. I'm sure that's massively bloating the memory footprint.
Consider switching to OpenOffice 2.0 [betas] (natively GTK+ now I believe?),
HelixPlayer (GTK+ based) with the RealPlayer libraries added
(HelixPlayer is from Real, and the new RealPlayer is Helix+non-free libs).
As far as Acrobat 7, I'm not sure, but I think it's still statically linked Motif.
But that leaves only one application that is not native. I don't leave Acrobat...

Status of Vorbis in Realplayer
...ayer 10.5 which is
apparently pretty recent and apparently is powered by Helix technology or
whatever it is it says. But it doesn't want to play our stream, or any
local Vorbis files. Am I wrong in thinking that the Helix Vorbis plugin
was a done deal? I was under the impression that the Helixplayer for
LInux and also Symbian could play Ogg Vorbis, so should Realplayer for
Windows be able to or not, and if not, how far away is this?

hxplay versus realplay
Interesting. I downloaded and installed both
HelixPlayer-0.4.0.187-20040615.i586.rpm and
RealPlayer-0.4.0.186-20040615.i586.rpm
on my Mandrake 10.0 system.
With hxplay, the theora sample video, Mixtape.small.ogg, played as well as it
does with mplayer 1.0pre4, which is reasonably well. But when I tried to
watch it with realplay, the program choked and...

Speex client?
Hello,
On the announcement page for Icecast 2.3 it mentions
"Streaming support for ogg speex, ogg flac, ogg midi".
I've googled around and not found any free clients that
support streaming speex. I looked at svn for libshout2 and
it doesn't seem to support speex and skimming through
the list archives I only see mention of speex last February,
which seemed to indicate it would
