[OT] Leveno HDD caddies
...raded
Windows 7ProSP1 install without media I decided to pull the disk drive and
install onto a spare drive that I installed.
Those of you with any experience with this model computer or its family can
tell where this is going.
Basically, the disk drive module for these things is disposable. The HDD is
enclosed in a removable caddy but is welded to it. You can only replace the
HDD with a pre-mounted HDD in yet another caddy, which item is available only
from Leveno.
My question is: Does anyone here know of a source for an after-market caddy
that fits these machines ad which allows one to in...

backing up email / saving maildir on external hard drives
Dear Christian,
Thanks for your feedback.
The HDD will not accept larger than 4GB (as its in FAT format). Its a new
external HDD. Thinking of the best format(that would work with Mac , Win
and Linux) .seems like a challenge.
What's your view on NTFS? And why not exFAT?
Thanks

I need help with GRUB
...help with grub. I've a PC that I've assembled by my self and
the configuration is listed below.
AMD Athlon 3600+
1GB Kingstone RAM
80GB SATA & 40 GB PATA
MSI Motherboard
And the problem that I'm having is with my two Linux distros. Ive
installed CentOS & Windows in my SATA HDD and I've used my complete 40GB
PATA HDD for Ubuntu. Well all OS's work fine with out any problems but when
I want to boot into CentOS I've to select the SATA as my booting HDD from
the BIOS if I want to go to Ubuntu the I've to select my PATA as the default
HDD from the menu. So wha...

ISOLINUX 1.67 failure with no HDD; OK with HDD
Award BIOS 6.00PG, CD-ROM configured as first boot device
CD-ROM on IDE-1, master
variable: hard disk drive on IDE-0, master
no other IDE devs, no SCSI
if i boot with the HDD installed, ISOLINUX boots the CD OK with DL=9F.
if i remove the HDD, ISOLINUX fails to load the spec packet and can't
``wing it'' with DL=9F. (no maybe_msg's appear, either)
otherwise, this (and the venerable SYSLINUX) is (are) great stuff.

[PATCH] [memdisk] Add some DriveShiftLimit logic
Let's try that patch again... Here's a better one, instead. I tested
with:
qemu -kernel memdisk -initrd memdsk.hdd -append pause -hda one.hdd -hdb
two.hdd -hdc three.hdd -hdd four.hdd
On each HDD image, I had a file (and volume label) to identify the HDD
with the DOS 'dir' command. The expected behaviour was met; I wound up
with DOS drive letters:
C: memdsk.hdd
D: one.hdd
E: two.hdd
F: three.hdd

[HW] Do the HDD cages in rack mount chassis indicate visual/audio HDD failure?
....
To reduce the H/W cost, I am considering Linux mdadm RAID10 on a 2U chassis.
I would appreciate clarification on the following:
In rack mount chassis, do the cages that house the
hard disks have the following feature?
(a) Indicate disk failure. LED lights up and/or audio alarm?
(b) The failed HDD can be swapped.
TIA.

Backup strategy using 2 HDD + 2 drawers
Hi,
One of my CentOS 4 server is a repository for backups for other
machines. In this server, there is a 3ware RAID card and 2 HDD for the
OS + data of this server. I also have 2 drawers (each containing one
200GB hdd), connected to a promise TX2000 card. One disk will remain in
the server and one will be taken outside. What would be the best
strategy for syncing the hdd when I swap them?
Note: I don't want to do...

HDD duplication in RH7.3
Hi Folks,
I have an internal HDD running under RH7.3. I would like to purchse a second HDD(usb external) of same geometry, and use it as a bootable snapshot of the first internal HDD.
I wish to make a whole disk bootable backup regularly via this method.
Is this feasible ?
How should I approach this ?
Any advice and/or documentat...

Gluster infrastructure question
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Heyho guys,
I'm running since years glusterfs in a small environment without big
problems.
Now I'm going to use glusterFS for a bigger cluster but I've some
questions :)
Environment:
* 4 Servers
* 20 x 2TB HDD, each
* Raidcontroller
* Raid 10
* 4x bricks => Replicated, Distributed volume
* Gluster 3.4

I'm asking me, if I can delete the raid10 on each server and create
for each HDD a separate brick.
In this case have a volume 80 Bricks so 4 Server x 20 HDD's. Is there
