problems implementing dovecot LDA with Postfix
Per the instructions here http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA and here http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Postfix I set postmaster_address = postmaster at hardwarefreak.com in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf and mailbox_command = /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver in /etc/postfix/main.cf When I restart dovecot I get this: [07:17:00][root at greer]/etc/dovecot$ /etc/init.d/dovecot restart Restarting IMAP/POP3 mail server: dovecotError: Error in configuration file /etc/doveco...

1.2.15 can't get zlib working
...rked fine. I gzipped the original mbox file down to 14MB and removed the write flag with chmod. I launched TBird and received the following error in Activity Manager when accessing this IMAP folder: The current operation on '1-Spam-l' did not succeed. The mail server for account stan at hardwarefreak.com responded: Mailbox doesn't exist: 1-Spam-l I deleted the Dovecot index files and the TBird 1-Spam-l.msf file which didn't help. Curiously, there are no entries in either dovecot.err or dovecot.log, giving not even the slightest hint as to where I should troubleshoot. Kinda sucks when...

Passdb + single sing on + NTLM + Thunderbird.
Hi!, I want to use single sign on from Windows with Thunderbird or Outlook using NTLM. Which should be placed in the configuration file for passdb?. Currently I have: passdb { driver = pam } But it generates the following error when trying to check mail: dovecot: auth: pam (pepe, 190 108 101 120): unknown user If I remove imap passdb just does not work and I add at the end of this mail the

Samba SMB throughput
Hello everyone, Quoting from Samba Team Blog #2 (25 Sept 2009): "Volker showed how to get more than 700MB/sec from Samba using smbclient and a modern Samba server, which shows what you can really do when you understand the protocol thoroughly and don't feel you have to invent a new one (SMB2 :-)." Would it be possible to get a complete accounting of how this was achieved? Thanks,

First time Dovecot user, really impressed so far. What is best IMAP enabled webmail package to go with Dovecot?
Greetings everyone, I'm new to the list as of today. I just installed Dovecot a couple of days ago for the first time, Debian Lenny Dovecot v1.0.15-2.3. So far I'm pretty impressed. I'm using mbox format with Dovecot auto-deciding to place mail in user home directories, which is great. It works very well with the Win32 Thunderbird 3 client over a small basic 100FDX switched net.

Dovecot and SSD
I'm considering setting up my own mailserver with Dovecot 2.0 (as soon as it's out) and SSD. I'm debating whether it's worth it or not. I have been running a mailserver with the Dovecot 1.1 train for a couple of years and it's been flawless and amazing. I'm thinking about using either FreeBSD 8.1 w/ZFS or OpenBSD 4.8-beta on a 64 GB or 80 GB SSD (Corsair or Intel) using

samba over internet slow with images/thumbnails
Hello, Iam providing access to many images on a share to windows users from my linux samba over the internet. The problem is that I need thumbnail viewing because of the nature of this library and thumbnails take to much time to load it seems as though it is actually loading the entire image to then display the small thumbnail. Is this true? Also isnt there some kind of caching that can be

Ongoing performance issues with 2.0.x
Due to the ongoing performance issues with 2.0.x I switched back to 1.2.15 yesterday evening, with no changes to the machine or my users. (I migrated from 1.2.15 to 2.0.x by converting the existing config) Today, we have MUCH LESS load, with the same number of logins/min. I cannot say what exactly causes this immense increase in load, but one observation is that the time spent in system() has

ransomware etc
Hi all, Just out of curiosity: is there anything we can do, on the samba side, to counter the recent ransomware attacks? (or limit the damage done) I'm thinking like: limit the number of files per second a client (workstation) is allowed to edit, or some other smart tricks..? It would be nice if samba could be an extra layer of defense. Something perhaps a vfs module could help with..?

postfix and spam, I am impressed
I have had the same email address since 1997 (when microsoft stole bob.com from me thanks to network solutions...) In the early days I of course was free with my email and used it everwhere. Fast forward to 2012, some 15 years later. woof..the amount of spam sent to me has always just kept getting worse and worse. On my centos 5 server I just used sendmail with spamassassin and it killed a

If you want it disabled, make sure doveconf shows it as 0.
