I meanwhile united the section "USB Miscellenous" with
http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Hardware_Compatibility#USB-Geometry
Now it is a bit too long but does not show an artificial
separation of general statements and examples.
It is a vague as needed and as tangible as possible, i think.
Please have a look and criticize. Any objection is welcome.
Have a nice day :)

Hi,
i now realized that

are the new wiki sections by Gene Cumm. (Sorry for not reading
them when they were announced.)
So i ask especially him whether the statement

But it is in wiki page Hardware_Compatibility.
Check out the neighborhood.
If there is a place to - for once - state how a "normal" partition
table should look like, then there.
The user of partitioning tools shall rather be directed to

Yes. Nothing is absolute with that topic.
Some combinations work, some don't. It should work
with the "should" recommendations.

Next i'll try to develop a user oriented hint for

DELL E6510 pxelinux issues
Hello,
I have a problem with our DELL E6510 notebooks (BIOS version A05):
1. After the update from syslinux-3.71 to 4.02 LOCALBOOT no longer
works. I've read
<http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Hardware_Compatibility#LOCALBOOT_on_Dell_Latitude_E6400>
and neither version works. The behavior differs between the laptop
rebooting automatically and getting stuck.
I checked all versions up to 6.02, which finally makes it work again

LOCALBOOT not working on IBM/Lenovo E73 workstation
...p3.
My clients are all Lenovo/IBM E73 Workstations with latest bios.
My config is:
LABEL disk
LOCALBOOT 0
unfortunately this is not working. I tried all 5 options to localboot 1,2,3...
as well as chainloading with chain.c32 like described in the wiki:
http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Hardware_Compatibility#LOCALBOOT
It seems that this is a known problem on certain hardware.
Are there any other workarounds available?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Might I request write access as well? I think we should also update the
isolinux howto with a single-step guide how to build isohybrid isos with
xorriso and isohdpfx.bin.

1) What version of Syslinux?
2) Check for BIOS updates as sometimes they have an effect.

hanging localboot
Ive got a soekris 4801 on which Ive used pxelinux...
its bios is set to go to pxeboot 1st, then localboot.
Ive got:
label bootlocal
MENU label ^9 Boot Local
localboot 0
# timeout 80
# TOTALTIMEOUT 9000
but using hangs:
Booting from local disk...
PXE-M0F: Exiting MacPhyter PXE ROM.
then nothing.
the same compact flash image works fine when boot order is 80 1st,

http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Hardware_Compatibility#USB_related_problems
is probably a good place to start documenting some of these tips and
troubleshooting hints (which I just started).

[PATCH] MAC Address Ranges
Hi all,
I'm new here so bear with me. I am working on a project at work where
we are replacing 1000+ Dell servers.
When a new Dell server is delivered to one of our remote offices it
will PXE boot off of the existing Dell server and install openSuse and
then configure itself.
We also PXE boot windows PCs in the remote offices so we needed a way
to assign a large range of MAC addresses to a
