CentOS 6 yum Groupinstall vs Manual install
Gentlemen,
I have a question regarding yum groupinstall vs just using yum install.
I have been reading tutorials online (for example how to run a Centos
LAMP). Most of the tutorials have examples to install httpd, mysql, etc
using yum install httpd....
The reason for this e-mail is that I noticed in yum grouplist that there
is an option to install Web Server, MySQL database server, etc.

yum groupinstall "MySQL Database"
Hi all,
I have a question related to yum groupinstall.
I just tried a:
yum groupinstall "MySQL Database"
I expected that I would end up with a MySQL Database server,
but it installed a bunch of .rpms *except* mysql-server. No
big deal, I'm just curious if it was intended this way or not,
that's all.
Thank you and,
Have a nice evening everyone,

Centos Gotcha: YUM Groupinstall
Folks
I have encountered a situation with YUM that isn't what I expected.
Let's suppose I want to install a group, call it G. My first
question would be -- is the group already installed. Realize all of
this is scripted.
So, I use
yum groupinfo
and I see the list of installed groups, and those not yet installed.
If group G is in the list of installed groups, one would think that

trying to do the below command.

However, you do not have any GPG public keys installed. You need to download

You can do that by running the command:

yum groupinstall vs. yum group install
Hi,
Is there a difference between 'yum groupinstall' and 'yum group
install'? As far as I can tell,
# yum groupinstall "X Window System"
and
# yum group install "X Window System"
get me the same result.
Just curious.

To the best of my knowledge, nobody''s working on that. The main
difficulty in enabling that is making sure that puppet doesn''t run ''yum
groupinstall'' (or ''yum groupupdate'') on every run. To avoid that,

yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop" fails
I?ve got a CentOS 7 VM here that was installed with one of the CLI-only presets. To answer a question in another thread here, I wanted to install a GNOME desktop environment in it, so I went searching and found the standard instructions for doing that.
The problem is that rebooting the VM gives me a black screen after it finishes the text booting parts. There?s an X cursor, and wiggling the

yum groupinstall everything
I have seen people on the list say you can yum groupinstall everything yet
when I tried their method, it didn't work
Is there actually a way other than making a script with all the info in it?

Correct:
yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop" "X Window System"
That should work

Back to Xfce
Now that the basic server is up and running.? With Gnome via VNC (yuck),
it is time to go back and figure out howto install Xfce without an Xfce
group script.? So I am asking those with X64 Centos for some pointers.?
Like where are the group scripts so maybe I can modify them for armhfp.

Package group "X Window System" has disappeared
Hi,
Until last week, I could install a CentOS 7 based desktop using the
following approach:
1. Install minimal system.
2. yum groupinstall "X Window System"
3. yum install gdm gnome-classic-session gnome-terminal liberation-fonts
4. Install applications as needed.
This morning, the package group "X Window System" seems to have
disappeared. This is embarrassing.

Installing X on a Minimal Build
hey, any way I can install X onto the 'minimal build' via yum?
I'd just reinstall, but am working with a 2TB system and it would take
hours to re-do. Just curious...

possible bug 5.1 - possibly more of a package issue
Hi there, not really sure if this is a bug, but more so rather a missing file...
I installed a fresh 5.1 copy very minimal - no desktop, etc. Now it
came up later that I would need a desktop on this install. So I was
going to just groupinstall in the Gnome Desktop.
# yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment"
Now while processing the dependencies, it fails out with a dependency

yum groupinstall "Development Tools" overkill
Hi,
The subject says it all. I'm currently fiddling with CentOS to become
comfortable with it. Starting from a minimal system (everything
unchecked during install), I wanted to have a reasonable set of build
tools. Roughly the equivalent of Debian's 'apt-get install build-essential'.
I tried yum groupinstall "Development Tools", which resulted in a total
of 108 MB

centos5 - yum groupinstall and yum grouplist
If I do a minimal centos 5 install
Then if I do a
yum -y update
then if I do a
yum groupinstall "Development Tools" "Development Libraries"
(is that syntax right, it works)?
both are installed yet if I
yum grouplist
this is all that shows up as installed even though both are installed

Development Libraries
