glusterd2 problem
Hi Dmitry,
How many nodes does the cluster have ?
If the quorum is lost (majority of nodes are down), additional recovery
steps are necessary to bring it back up:

[Update] GD2 - what's been happening
...eliable. Aravinda has also
started initial work on a geo-replication plugin [9], that will help
us develop our plugin infrastructure and be a demo/example of a GD2
plugin for developers.
This concludes the updates since the last update. Thanks for reading.

Syntax for creating arbiter volumes in gluster 4.0
...ax in the gluster CLI for creating arbiter volumes is
`gluster volume create <volname> replica 3 arbiter 1 <list of bricks>` .
It means (or at least intended to mean) that out of the 3 bricks, 1
brick is the arbiter.
There has been some feedback while implementing arbiter support in
glusterd2 for glusterfs-4.0 that we should change this to `replica 2
arbiter 1` , meaning that there are 2 replica (data) bricks and the 3rd
one is the arbiter (which only holds meta data).
See [1] for some discussions. What does everyone feel is more user
friendly and intuitive?
Thanks,
Ravi

Status update:
I've made some progress on Debian packaging of glusterd2. Debian golang
packaging using dh-make-golang is strongly biased toward downloading the
$HEAD from github and building from that. I haven't been able to find
anything for building from a source (-vendor or not) tarball. Mostly
it's trial and error trying to defeat the dh-helper voodoo magic...

glusterd2 will provide ReSTful APIs [1] for volume management and will be
available from 4.0. That could be easier for invoking from python.

IMP: Release 4.0: CentOS 6 packages will not be made available
...be built by the gluster community. This also means
that the CentOS SIG will not receive updates for 4.0 gluster packages.
Gluster release 3.12 and its predecessors will receive CentOS 6 updates
till Release 4.3 of gluster (which is slated around Dec, 2018).
The decision is due to the following,
- Glusterd2 which is golang based meets its dependencies on CentOS 7
only, and is not built on CentOS 6 (yet)
- Gluster community regression machines and runs are going to be CentOS
7 based going forward, and so determinism of quality on CentOS 7 would
be better than on CentOS 6

Announcing Gluster release 4.0.0 (Short Term Maintenance)

choose Gluster as the default scale-out distributed file system.
We?re highlighting some of the announcements, major features and changes
here, but our release notes[1] have announcements, expanded major
changes and features, and bugs addressed in this release.
Major enhancements:
- Management
GlusterD2 (GD2) is a new management daemon for Gluster-4.0. It is a
complete rewrite, with all new internal core frameworks, that make it
more scalable, easier to integrate with and has lower maintenance
requirements. This replaces GlusterD.
A quick start guide [6] is available to get started with GD2.

Bricks to sub-volume mapping
...bricks) = Total Bricks
Note: Sub volumes are predictable without storing it as separate info
since we do not have a concept to mix different sub volumes types for
single Volume(Except in case of Tiering).? But in future we may support
sub volumes with multiple types within a Volume.(Issue with Glusterd2

How to remove dead peer, osrry urgent again :(

If the dead server doesn't host any volumes (bricks of volumes to be
specific) then you can actually remove the uuid entry from
/var/lib/glusterd from other nodes and restart glusterd instances one after
another as a workaround. With Glusterd2, we will see if we can have a
better user experience here.
GD2 team - your thoughts?

Because I *can't* remove it. It died, was unable to be brought up. The
gluster peer detach command only works with live servers - A severe
problem IMHO.

The server hosted a brick, but I removed that after it died with
"gluster v remove-brick force". Does that mean I could edit glusterd as
you suggest?

That would be good - I imagine in a lot of cases the only way a server
is removed is *after* it has died.
Thanks.
