Migration from samba_dsdb to tdbsam.
While trying to resolve the loss of prefix for full_audit, I attempted to
update from Samba 4.3.9 to 4.4.5. Its a very simple environment,
standalone server running on i386 built from source.
After performing the build and installation, I was informed that
passdb backend = samba_dsdb
was no longer supported, so I commented out the line, to find which default
I should use. testparm advises it

Windows 7 + Samba 3.5.6 = abject misery...
Can anyone help with this? I set it all up a few months ago, the samba
side being standard upgrades via debian - configured as a PDC, and the
windows 7 clients being clean installs, with the standard
lanmanworkstation regedits done.
They've been working fine since then, but have now started failing,
instead raising the error message

How to configure samba to use LDAP/Kerberos authentication without using winbind?
We have a environment that the we cannot(don't want to) use winbind to join
samba server to the win2003 AD(with LDAP RFC2307bis Schema and uid/gid
setup for users).
We managed to get the linux (CentOS) to accept windows domain user ssh to
it(with nss/nslcd/kerberos settings).
But couldn't make samba server to use the same way to serve windows domain
users.

Samba4 AD SysVol Replication (HowTo + Script)
Hello,
as it is often a question here on the lists and by many others on the
internet, I wrote a new HowTo for setting up a SysVol replication
"workaround", until Samba supports this feature by itself:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/SysVol_Replication
For the replication process, I wrote a Bash script, put it on my
webspace and linked it in the HowTo, which should describe

Still confused about kerberos password expiry
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
After doing as you suggested, all seems right with the world. At least a
little bit more so.
If I understood this thing better, I would be glad to join your
documentation team. *sigh*

rsync Failure
Hello All:
I'm having an issue with rsync in that it recently (11/29/2008)
started to crash during a daily cron job backup. Below is some info
on how rsync is being used to backup our servers.
Version:
2.6.9
Execution:
Called daily via a wrapper script, and up until about 2 weeks ago,
ran fine. The wrapper script just loops through a series servers to
backup. The first server

sendmail getting domain\user as email userId
Dewayne,
Thanks a lot for this patch. I'll hang on to it any probably do some experimenting on the side.
The problem with this approach is that our AD/DC/Mail-server is in an office and I have to be
concerned about future sysadmins as well as future sendmail updates. I am very reluctant to
patch OS software, especially if other solutions are available.
At worst, I can drop back and remove

Suggest changing dirhash defaults for FreeBSD 9.2.
I have been experimenting with dirhash settings, and have scoured the internet
for other peoples' experience with it.
(I found the performance improvement in compiling has forestalled the need to
add an SSD drive. ;-)
I believe that increasing the following values by 10 would benefit most FreeBSD
users without disadvantage.

sendmail getting domain\user as email userId [formerly: How to GSSAPI/Kerberos authenticate with Dovecot]
Hi Mark,
I've had the same trouble with the DOMAIN\user on my DCs, and as Rowland
has already pointed out, the "winbind use default domain = yes" configure
option is not honored on a DC. My guess is that is because a Samba DC can
only be a DC for one domain, so that is why it isn't honored. If I do
"getent passwd username" on my DCs, they all return

Questions for minimal AD DC, DNS setup and Posix use
Our plan is to have one AD DC running in Head Office, RODC's at Branches and a second writeable DC at a contingency site. Fileshares
will run on separate servers. The Windows 2003/2008 Servers use authentication services from samba4 and run applications. Our
current environment is Samba-3.6.9 PDC,BDCs & fileshares, openldap stores samba, posix and acts as heimdal backend - for SSO.
